This is a song that I wrote and finished recording years ago.  It's taken so long since then to post because I would keep revisiting the mix every so often with the intention of finishing it, but I was never fully satisfied.  I'm still not a professional by any means, but I think it's at a point now where it's good enough and if I don't consider it done, I'll be mixing forever.  I wanted to have it finished by the end of 2015, so here we are.

Coalescence

This is another prog metal instrumental track (unless you want to count the wordless vocals). I wrote and recorded this song in the winter of 2008/2009. The song is broken up into three sections (0:00 - 2:23, 2:23 - 5:12, 5:12 - 9:12), each of which are meant to depict winter in a different way. It's more or less progressive metal, but with some influences from black, neoclassical and power metal. As with "Moonlight in Darkness," I re-recorded drums and remixed this song in early 2010, and that is the version you're hearing.

Crystalline Snowfall

This is another song that's not really in the progressive metal style I usually do - I decided I wanted to make a song with a bit more of a jazz/blues sort of influence.  The lyrics are about the monotony of suburban life.  I wrote and recorded this in the spring/early summer of 2009.

Suburban Hell

This is another song in the vein of "Suburban Hell" - a bit more bluesy than what I usually do.  I wrote and recorded this one in the spring of 2010.  At that time, I was in a rather difficult place and dealing with guilt, and so the lyrics of this deal with that concept and how making mistakes is an essential part of being human.  The guitar solo is played by my good friend Sean Wolford.

Mistakes (f. Sean Wolford)

This song is another instrumental.  I wrote it in the spring and summer of 2009 with the intent of playing it with a band called Dark Alliance that I was the drummer for at the time and possibly adding vocals to it.  Eventually that band fizzled out, and so I decided to record the song myself in the summer of 2010.  It's more or less progressive metal, but has some influences from melodeath, thrash and power metal.

Shadow of the Eclipse

This song was written and recorded in the spring/summer of 2009.  This track is influenced more by traditional progressive rock, rather than some of the heavier progressive metal.  The lyrics are a reflection on death, inspired by a friend who passed away while I was writing the song.

Memories of Yesterday

I wrote this song in the fall of 2009 after getting into Opeth, so this song is definitely influenced by them.  It sort of explores the more melancholic side of progressive metal.  The lyrics deal with the death of innocence and how we fall from grace and are exposed to the malice of the world.  The harsh vocals are done by my friend Eric Trude, because I'm absolutely terrible at doing them.  The spoken passage in the middle is a quote by Toni Morrison.

The Buried Sins (f. Eric Trude)

I wrote and recorded this song in the summer and fall of 2010.  The genre of this one is a bit harder to describe - in a broad sense, it's progressive metal, but borrows heavily from psychedelic rock and doom metal.  The lyrics are inspired by natural imagery, particularly the image of sunlight breaking through darkness, but they're not exactly intended to mean anything - the words are chosen more for their sonorous effect than their actual meaning.

Sunrays

I wrote this song about 2 years ago with the hopes of creating a progressive rock epic in the vein of Transatlantic, Yes or Pink Floyd.  This was my first try at writing such a long song, so it’s definitely not perfect.  But there are certainly parts in here that I like, and I’d like to think that it’s not too bad for a first try.  The lyrics deal with life and how people choose to use it – each section of the lyrics is a *fictional* first-person account of how people go through life and what motivates them to keep living.

Vitality

This is a song I wrote about a year ago, and have been recording off and on since then.  This was an attempt to do a more straightforward, verse-chorus type of song.  The original intent was to create something in the vein of late-60s psychedelic rock (late Beatles, Procol Harum, etc) and early prog, but it sort of ended up becoming different than that.

The lyrics of the song look at different ways to view life: the verses are optimistic and hopeful, while the chorus is pessimistic and cynical.  The final stanza explains how, whatever we might be going through at any given time, "the guiding hand of fate" has a tendency to lead us towards some sort of salvation.

Kingdom of Poseidon is my solo project.  I write, record and play every instrument on all of these songs.  My style is mostly influenced by progressive rock/metal, however, I delve into other genres at times.
