Joel Martin is not only one half of Quiet Village (along with Matt Edwards of Radio Slave). He's also out together several compilations of library music, including 2004’s “Dawn of the Dead – The Unreleased Score”, featuring original music cues used in the legendary Zombie flick. Joel used some of these tracks when supervising background music for the legendary zombie-comedy film “Shaun of the Dead”. In a word, the dude has a vast knowledge of the darkest, most diabolical corners of the horror film soundtrack world. So be careful what you say to him. (We’re not saying he definitely carries knives and axes, but you never know with these obsessed types who seem so nice and friendly on the surface...)
Here Joel's used his knowledge and ear to stitch together a slithering, many-headed creature guarding the gates of hell. “Baptism by Blood” incorporates everything from the trailer to Argento's "Deep Red", famous horror scores, their lesser known counterparts, as well as horror related afro/reggae and electronica and evil-sounding voices rasping highly evocative words from time to time. 
If this doesn't get you in the mood for Unsound 2010's "Horror" theme, we don't know what will.
By the way, Joel is not only going to DJ with Cherrystones as an intro to Emeralds and Goblin on 24.10, he’s also the co-curator of Unsound's panel discussion and Q + A series and will interview the likes of Goblin and Alan Howarth at Unsound, as well as speak about the use of library music in exploitation movies. UP#12 Joel Martin's Baptism by Blood

DJ Flatic & 5ive, the two Japanese producers behind Cos/Mes, have gob-smacked us with their rich and colorful mixes, constantly changing the key of this often monotonous industry. Part of a larger crew of multimedia artists, designers and directors, Flatic and 5ive know how to translate visuals into sound like no one else.
Naruto opens with a chugging, Cos/Mes trademark rhythm. In from the ocean's depth come the menacing monster grunts. Hard-panned sounds of a dragon licking its tongue interchange with eerie laughter and slowly increase the unease. Towards the end you arrive in a dreamlike ambiance with floating fragments of spiritual jazz and swampy blues slides. Slowly drowning with delight. A perfect storm of pure analogue breaking waves with a frothy crest.
