Final mix of feb as we stick to our bi-monthly mix plan, and this one comes courtesy of the wonderful Michael aka kingsleepy1st .

I met Michael through various moments when I came to Berlin, and even though the initial interactions were brief they always left me wanting to get to know him more, as always had a genuine energy to him. We had mutual friends and so many told me how great a DJ he is as well, and from listening to his mixes on Soundcloud and on refugeworldwide (where he hosts the show Wet Dreams) I really connected with his deep sense and love for music. Had the pleasure of inviting him to play the 2nd black-is in Berlin, where he played a fantastic (as expected) set, and we followed it with a brief B2B that was one of my fav moments that year.

He's been high on my list to invite and contribute to the VIBRATIO)))NS series, and what he sent has truly floored me. Part mix, part sound collage; he explores the themes of the Black experiences in the most poetic of ways. I cannot state how deeply moving and meaningful this mix is, and I'm so grateful to Michael for putting so much effort and care into it.

Here's the mix in his own words

"The intention behind this mix was to create a space for reflection on some of what we have experienced & witnessed with such force in the past year - war, oppression, racism, inequality, and the apathy of many in the face of the suffering of other humans. At the same time, I wanted to highlight the power of protest, the strength from unity, and the role of hope and love in building a better world.I move through a range of some of the emotions I felt in response to the darkest moments…before gradually giving way to moments of prayer, healing, and empowerment, trying to ultimately lead to something more hopeful. A reference that really inspired me was Prayer / Protest / Peace from Max Roach’s We Insist! Freedom Now Suite, a track that captures the emotional spectrum of the fight for justice—raw anger, pain, and the hope of eventual peace. Released in 1960, during a time of intense social and political upheaval, the album was a powerful response to global struggles against colonialism and apartheid, and an act of protest in support of the civil rights movement. If you haven’t heard the album yet, this current moment would seem to be a poignant time to listen to it. My hope is that this mix resonates with you in some way — whether it is simply a feeling, a reflection or through some action. If it does I’d love to hear from you and please share any tracks (below in the comments) that you also think can apply to these times somehow…
