Formed in 2018, Kinky Muppet is an amalgam of disparate personalities and musical styles. Comprised of the artist Nicholas Hoffman, musician Oliver Stotz and painter Katrin Plavčak; the group approaches the form of the “rock n’ roll trio” by playfully acknowledging its lack as well as its potential in the 21st century. Absurd observations on things like electricity, robots and poor eyesight give way to earnest reflections on death, prosthetics and ontology, as riffs, hooks and grooves mingle with searing feedback, distorted guitars, buttery harmonies and kitschy sound effects. Their debut album “Chicken Permit” appeared in March 2020 on the local Viennese label Plag Dich Nicht.
