In 2019, following a weekend playing in Berlin, I experienced a prolonged psychotic episode, my second (and first since 2004). The consequences  to my life and career were manifold and all-encompassing, and by the time the psychosis was retriggered in early 2021, the volition to engage with music on any meaningful level was utterly waylaid. Fortunately, I've been in good health since, and decided to undertake the Fitzcarraldo-like task of listening to and organising my entire digital library. I'm still not sure why I felt compelled to 'sort through the wreckage' in this way, but something told me there would be some kind of meaning to be derived from the endeavour. And I've decided to document the journey with a series of mixtapes, some of which will have a loose theme of sorts, such as this one. While there will be some new or recent music included, the vast majority of the tracks will have been collected in the last 10 years or so. 

I hope you will enjoy listening as much as I've been enjoying putting these together.

Rita Maomenos has created her distinctive niche, blending genres with her cinematic, obscure, and deliciously complex style. Her sets pull you on a thrilling journey through out-of-ordinary drum patterns and eerie soundscapes.

Native from Portugal, she found her musical footing in the gritty scene of Rotterdam, where she was  a resident at Perron and was a regular on Operator radio. Now based in Lisbon, she has performed at Sonar, Outra Cena, Lux, and launched “usb stick diaries”, her monthly show on East Side Radio, adding a fresh perspective to the local scene. 

Her releases on labels such as Diffuse Reality, Ōtomo, Kepler Live Records, Elberec, and LXVIII, offer a glimpse into her universe; a place where the beats are as bold as the imagery they evoke.
