@pompelope was born out of the gatherings of a bunch of friends who had a passion for the four to the floor in the Belleville bargains basements. Party organizers and record pushers in their spare time, they distribute sets which range from house to disco and from downtempo to HI-NRG, as long as people dance.

In an eternal and obsessive search for warm and ethereal basslines, I fall into funk music after meeting a vinyl dealer in my hometown - Rennes - who gets all his stock from Chicago. Full of original US funk, disco, soul, jazz & Chicago House at low prices, this is the place to be and learn about black music! And this is the beginning for me of my passion for bass lines which revolve around "funk sensations": synth, boogie, 80s funk, funky house, disco funk, jazz funk, all around this particular sensation of 'a warm bassline that will keep your feet off the ground and create special communions on dancefloors!

Live from Giant Steps sharing all my favourites, particularly some inspirational women in my life and legacy artist from South Africa.

Following the success of Special Touch - Garden of Life, Heels & Souls Recordings kick off their 12” reissue series with an EP of digger delights from Frankfurt’s under-the-radar production trio of Manfred Holz, Michael Buchner and Jürgen Blömke, complete with a balearic remix from London duo, Good Block.

One side contains the instantly absorbing, late '80s electro nugget, 'Steal It An’ Deal It', from the aptly named The Soundstealers. Cruisin the slow lane at 100BPM, an idiosyncratic blend of samples, sound effects and percussive flourishes, underpinned by chest rumbling bassweight, guarantees dancefloor bedlam whether drawing for the dance or dub mix. 

On the flip you’re treated to obscure acid chugger ‘Amazonia’. Originally created for the opening credits of a ‘90s German nature documentary ‘Wunder Wildnis’ (seriously), the breakbeat-driven dance mix stomps through the undergrowth, acidic arps and pan flutes fizzing across the forest canopy. Heels & Souls pass the baton to London’s Good Block for the home stretch, the tropical twosome reworking the bassline and sprinkling some synth wizardry for a remix that grooves off over the horizon. 

These hard-to-find, pricey gems have been fully licensed from the trio, with weighty remasters courtesy of Cicely Balston. 20% of profits from Heels & Souls Recordings and Prime Direct Distribution will be donated to Papyrus, a UK charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.

With the vast amount of new music released in the past weeks, the show features a top draw selection of talented artists including Saucy Lady, K-Maxx, Morgan, XL Middleton, First Touch, Soul Supreme, Dam Funk, The Vapor Caves, The Jack Moves + more! I also sit down and catch up with Walla P about Prime Source and have a sneak preview into some of the new things lined up coming in the next month. Aswad also shares some close to the heart favourites from the collection (of course ☺️)
