In 2020 we saw the emergence of one of the freshest record labels to emerge out of NYC in an age. We love this label here at 1BTN HQ and are over the moon to hand over the 1BTN airwaves to Our Starry Universe for a 12hr takeover.

DJ’ing since his formative years in the frozen Northern reaches of Yorkshire Johnston has been many things; Acid-House Veteran, Techno Survivor, Alpinist, Hardway Bros and Freelance Disco Consultant but it is his recent production work and now legendary club night that he has best become known for the world over. From the early 90’s institution that was Sabresonic to Disco Bloodbath, Sean has played at many of London’s landmark clubs. He also plays regularly at Berlin’s premier underground venue Salon Zur Wilden Renate, festivals in French castles and the Dalmatian coast, as well as across the whole breadth of this fine aural landscape we live in.

Sallad Egg is based in London where she hosts club nights under the name ŒUF. She is a vocalist and collaborator with the musician Zeta Zeta and a member of the Valley Sound Records family.

Snakedance is based in Hamburg. In 2019 he started together with some friends @hallo-radio which is an online radio, but with a strong focus on the local community and on realizing events connected to the locality.
His musical roots are in Dresden to where he is still connected through @zeptermusik , a project of musical exploration through events, DJing and unearthing recordings.

For us he made a morphing set of creepy tribal electronics and ambiance. A restlessness surrounds even the more relaxed parts of the mix, which end up  sometimes even in rave reminiscences. Rather than focussing on individual tracks, there is a omnipresent and continuous rhythm, a everending flow that makes the songs merge into another. This transformations from one previous form to the next is creating a central tension during the listen, which ultimately leads to something new, a hypnotic beauty, an unnameable third.

Max Bunt (@max-bunt) is a profound connoisseur in the flora and fauna of musical rarities. As frequent Camp Cosmic returnee, for years he has been transforming the ears and minds of his listeners into fragrant meadows. His interest reaches far and wide, always on the lookout for the unheard, the next goosebumper that will leave his audience enchanted.

For his metamorphosis, he accompanies us into spring and the awakening of the world. With awe and inspiration, we are presenting to you the first mix of this year! This is a recording from Mikel Acosta, who runs the Hegoa Records label ('Angel' - in the Basque language), which carefully re-releases the original music of the Basque Country. Whose people's autonomy, including cultural autonomy, has long been suppressed by the policy of Spain, especially during the Franco regime.

I truly admire Mikel's work! With great love for the culture of his people and his origins, he introduces the listener to the previously concealed experimental, jazz and ambient music, which is deeply rooted in national folklore.

For De Kat Memwa, Mikel recorded the perfect hour-long meditative winter mix for introspection, walking, contemplating nature or reading!

This month Carhartt WIP Radio introduces the Swiss label Les Disques Bongo Joe. Since 2015 the imprint has explored contemporary music from their homeland and surrounding areas, bringing the world artists such as Altin Gün, Hyperculte, Cyril Cyril, or the French band La Tène. Furthermore, the label unearths rare old music from all corners of the planet, reflecting genres like Sega, Calypso, Spanish Synth Wave, Merengue, folk, and more.

For Carhartt WIP Radio Les Disques Bongo Joe founder Cyril Yeterian prepared a show that mirrors the label’s past with music by Mameen 3, Lalalar and Massicot, as well as fresh, soon-to-be-released songs and compositions by Cyril Cyril and the great Columbian avantgarde band Meridian Brothers. As usual, we talked to our host about the origins of his enterprise, his very own musical ambitions, the free-spirited vibe of his label and some additional secrets beyond sound.
