Beyond the exclusive and rare digs you can find at Cosmos, the best feature of the store is the man behind the counter. Aki is always holding it down at Cosmos West (there is also the Cosmos East location a stone’s throw away) and is ready to share knowledge on his favorite records, whether rare groove holy grails or slept-on budget records.

A session between Lexis and Aki playing records for each other (and you!) in a format that Aki called “Rare Groove Kissa” (Kissa meaning “tea or coffee drinkiing shop” in Japanese).

Adriana is a dear friend of the Waxflower family, amongst many others within our humble local music scene. We are not the only ones who have fallen under the spell of her infectious charisma.

So yes, it was an absolute pleasure to hang out with this ray of sunshine for a whole month. We all thoroughly enjoyed playing audience to an array of both new-age and classic sounds through her sets, having been hand-picked from all corners of the world. This was about as close to a foreign cultural experience as we have had in awhile (insert the obvious sentiment for the times).

To continue the journey, make sure to dial into Adriana’s ongoing world music program ‘Opalakia’ on PBS 106.7FM, with this mix being only a small entre for the spectrums she traverses.
