Wings Are A Freedom Only In Flight (Spiritual Instrumental Music For Deep Thought)

Southern-born, Turin based Stefania Vos has been spinning as a DJ, radio host and producer, and community agitator for over half a decade. A core member of Turin-born international community radio RBL.MEDIA, she's also one third of Non Frequenze Festival’s curatorial board and co-founder of Imbarchino del Valentino, one of Northern Italy’s most active venues for contemporary and independent electronic, experimental and underground music.  

The mix is a personal sonic depiction of intimacy; A slow and suspended voyage through nocturnal listenings, collaging the suspended and at times uncanny atmospheres of half-sleep states and the blissful moments of surrender to the quiet beauty of simple things, like looking at the dust shimmering in the air against the sunlight while listening to music.

Ru's back with some squelchy low end frequencies and dubwise flavours. Nudging the BPM from 116 to 135, Ru builds tension through tempo and texture, with atmospheric intermissions as welcome relief from the bass weight pressure.

"It's been 6 months since I moved back home to Sydney, after 3 years living in Spain and Melbourne before that. Though my time away was special and necessary, returning to my community has been equally inspiring. Many people find their place in the world away from 'home', and in some respects that's true for my experience too. But lately I've been riding my bike down Bourke Street, catching myself thinking 'damn, this place is so ridiculously dope’. It's a sensation that's often felt on the dancefloor too, knowing that this is exactly where you need to be right now. That's the energy I had when playlisting this mix — a respawning on home turf."

Doof Spawn 013: Ru - The Respawn

Texas native Gi Gi deals in head-down propulsive music. He’s released on a cast of labels including Good Morning Tapes (AUS), Quiet Time (USA), and INDEX:Records (UK/DE). Utilizing a collage-based approach that takes in a wide swath of source material, the result is a peculiar strain of ambient dance music equally at home in headphones or the back rooms of a club. 

As a DJ, the introspection that characterizes his music echoes throughout, but the net is cast wider. The energy inches upwards, and styles that trace contours in his productions present themselves more directly. Gi Gi brings nuance and warmth to his DJing, nudging dancers towards reflection and loungers towards movement.

On 'Lifecodes' the producer born Joni Judén weaves together a dense quilt of sound, shimmering and surging as it unfolds in free-time. Judén invites the listener down a luminous, harmonically adventurous path, where sound takes creaturely dimensions. The songs blossom and wilt, at times floating in states of ambivalence, at others washing over the listener like waves, bathing them in heavy light.

'Lifecodes' was created in the small village of Pynnölä, Joutsa in central Finland, where Celestial Trax has been living and working since 2020.
