Tribute to the seminal house music label, King Street Sounds.

King Street Sounds, was created in 1993 by Hisa Ishioka. The label name was inspired by the legendary New York City night club Paradise Garage and some of the earliest records I bought were on the label.

King Street and it's sister label Nite Grooves are renowned for their seminal Mix the Vibe series and countless house music moments.

If I had an opportunity to 'Mix The Vibe', it would have sounded a little something like this. Selecting from a pool of such amazing records from the 90's for this mix was tough so I guess that means they'll be a sequel soon :)

I've crammed in some absolute bullets from the likes of Jovonn, Kerri Chandler, Roger Sanchez, Mood II Swing, Murk, DJ Pierre, Masters At Work, Blaze, etc. The groove is unstoppable. Enjoy! :)

S.H.A.G Vol.1 - Mixed By Kiran Patel [DOWNLOADABLE]

Rulin' recently celebrated it's 20th Anniversary and monumentally, it turned out to be the final gig of our late great Godfather of House Frankie Knuckles. 

This mix is a tribute to all the DJ's that created an outstanding vibe week in week out at the Ministry, none more so than resident from this era, CJ Mackintosh. After hearing his Essential Mix back in 1994 as a kid, I was captivated by the warm soulful and energetic vibe he created and can only imagine what it would have been like to be there on the night. 

I hope this mix captures to an extent what it would have been like to experience what was a golden era for both quality of music produced and the outstanding DJs who really brought it.

The Underground Sound Of Gass - Mixed By Special K [DOWNLOADABLE]

“Said I wasn’t gonna tell nobody, but I just couldn’t keep it to myself.”

This mix has been a long – time coming and is a tribute to another massive influence on me as a DJ. Tony Humphries needs no introduction and neither does Yellorange. I just had to dust these off and blend the entire catalogue into an epic 2.5 hour mix. 

Yellorange Records, formed in 1998, paralleled the different styles of house music presented throughout Tony Humphries' tenure on New York radio, 15 years of performing at soulful dance clubs worldwide. Music ranged from soulful divas such as Chance, Meli'sa Morgan, and Sabrina Johnston to the Afro-Cuban flavor of Miguel Plasencia and the Italian sounds of Soweto Funk. These different styles exemplified the versatility of house music and of the label. 

Yellorange folded early 2003 as a casualty of the collapse of Strictly Rhythm, which handled its distribution. Its catalog is being revived through Humphries' new label, Tony Records although many of the tracks on here are still not available digitally – so it’s a great excuse to go and buy some vinyl!

A tribute to the classic soulful garage sound of 90's Garage City, London. Garage City was a night from the 90's run by the two legends of the soulful sound in London, Bobby & Steve. They are still going strong today and as well as being connoisseurs of quality soulful music, being the first to really bring the sound to London from the Paradise Garage in the 80s are also two of the nicest guys on the scene.
