This new chapter of our Podcast Series is a live recording of a DJ set from this year’s Bodily Community retreat in Cornwall’s beautiful Kudhva, courtesy of one of the most captivating postmodernists of club and ambient sound ~ Bruce 💫

Bruce is Larry McCarthy, a musician and DJ who has been transcending the frontiers of underground electronic music in its many shapes and forms for well over a decade. One of the major figures of the new generation of UK bass music, Larry is affiliated with the labels at the vanguard of the genre including Hessle Audio, Timedance and Livity Sound yet the expanse of his sonic world stretches out way beyond the scope of these outlets alone. Bruce’s invested interest in boundless artistic experimentation and candid self-expression lead to the release his pop ambient magnum opus “Not Ready For Love” in 2023 and is impeccably presented in this powerful and deeply emotive mix 🔮

This beautiful recording captures the essence of an engaged deep listening experience within the context of conscious retreat meets passionate interest in experimental electro-acoustic music. Challenging and sublime, it is a portal to mindful contemplation of the sound & silence continuum, riding through swells of field recordings, vocal music, raw electro-acoustic experiments and both dark and luminous ambient. This set was recorded live at Springkell in November of 2023 - a special gathering of artists, audiophiles and friends in a Scottish castle, with 3 non-stop days across 2 rooms, of ambient, techno and experimental music. For the past 3 years it has been a supreme annual highlight to attend as a guest, and last November I was honoured to be invited to play there for the first time.

The set was recorded early on the final evening of an icy cold weekend, so I looked to build the energy as we entered the final phase of the musical programme. A blend of new cuts and old classics.

Josephine’ Soundscapes es Jose Salas, creador audiovisual y promotor de la cultura alternativa en Madrid, en activo desde hace 2 décadas. En el ámbito musical trabaja como Dj, radio host, promotor y programador en clubes e instituciones, así como en proyectos de radio y colaboraciones de diversa índole.
Actualmente, parte su trabajo se materializa desde la promotora independiente a_mal_gam_a, que codirige junto a Diskoan, desde la que desarrolla iniciativas como Dance Cave Madrid. Su radio de acción se expande formando parte de otros proyectos culturales, colectivos o personales, como CALMA en Zapadores Ciudad del Arte, temple @ Espacio Perpedicular, Festival BetaPública de Teatros de Canal, las sesiones Vanishing Point o Campos de Marte @ Radio Relativa, su podcast dedicado a la música experimental.

Jane has been involved in electronic music for over 20 years, first as a raver and a music journalist in her native England and later in Asia, when she moved to Hong Kong at 23. Eventually she picked up DJing and brought her keen ear for selection and groove back to the UK at her event series like Peg, and Night Moves. Today she is considered one electronic music’s best selectors, holding residencides at the likes of Freerotation and The Pickle Factory.
