Philippine Madrigal Singers - From A Distance

This past couple of weeks, I was visited by this lovely group of people, friends from high school who are truly dear to me. Though the time we've spent together are but memories now, we'll always look back to these moments, and realize how lucky we all are to have found true friends. That no matter the distance, true friendship knows no boundaries.

I want to dedicate this simple song that got stuck in our head these past weeks.

And cheers to 10 years of friendship, and for the family that we chose to be with!

This was the last song I wrote for Jeremy's and my wedding: completed less than 24 hours before we walked down the aisle. 

When I worked on this, I was exhausted from writing, having just come out of my thesis reading and a series of class concerts. But I just had to set this classic (and yes, wedding-cliched) scriptural passage to music -- in a way that I liked, i.e., not wedding-cliched -- for our big day; while also building in something Jeremy said to me soon after we met, that has become one of the foundations of our relationship: "I want to be with someone who's not running ahead of me, or who's lagging behind me; I want someone with whom I'll be walking through life, side by side."

Less than a day of learning and rehearsing notwithstanding, Mikee, Jolegs and GP did a wonderful job on the song the next morning.  I'm grateful that, with the need for additional tracks on the Saint Peter's Mass CD, Mikee and Jolegs were able to record the song in a professional studio, and I'm able to share it here.

 The song depicts a montage of experiences - high and low, beginning and endings, in the journey of a man's life. Professing a profound gratitude for the gift of existence, the text speaks of life's dichotomy where no one is spared of tears, sorrow and weariness, yet on the  brighter side, still promises hope, blessings and new beginnings.

Wow, 1 year in Canada... I SURVIVED! :) i'm missing the Philippines though, the weather ITS SO COLD IN CANADA! hahaha the pollution, the noise, my kapit bahay (neighbor) who sings karaoke super early in the morning, i miss my dogs Ara & Cielo, my Ate Gwen, my bestfriend Katsie and her family, my love AJ, my best buddy Tomy, manggang hilaw, MRT, jeepneys, Taho, kwek kwek sa gilid ng UPCMu, Shangri-La Mall tambay, Midnight escapades with Sherwin, Jollibee, Hen Lin Siomai, and the list goes on... 
...and YES! the MADZ, I miss the Madz everyday.. they will always be in my heart. <3 

Canada is really nice to me, thanks to Kokopelli Choirs, Scott Leithead, Nuf Sed, Javier, Gloria, Spenser, Cory, Jenica ...and everybody else that i didn't type the name.. i don't know what my life would be like without you in my life. :)
