TropiCaldo is now three months old and, in that time, we have already been able to get to know some of the cultural diversity in Brazil and Latin America. Our main objective will always be to explore from Oiapoque to Chuí and beyond the physical boundaries of this world.

This time, we will have a taste of the nectar coming from the south of the country. Today our guest is a dear friend, Fruno ( @frunolima ), one of the new exponents of the local scene in Balneário Camboriú. Co-founder of Banzeiro, resident of radio Tempo não Pára (Amsterdam), and a strong presence in music scene of the city, he presents in his mixes a plural, investigative repertoire and also a lot of identities.

His research navigates between different genres, passing by gems of disco, ambient, Balearic, deep-house, breakbeats, dream house.

“This mixtape speaks a lot about me today, at this time that we are living and surviving. Going through intense phases that fill me with life, because they make me feel the taste of living, having emotions and many twists and turns. It also talks a lot with what I have heard and studied in music today, transposing this mixture of sensations to this set.

I tried to bring a more chill vibe, to listen well with life, with a lot of MPB, disco, and a more agitated special touch to catch everyone off guard. From Gilberto Gil to Marcos Valle, Bernardo Pinheiro to DJ Cuca, I hope you enjoy this mix, it was an honor to participate, a big hug, thanks!”

A TropiCaldo já está para completar 03 meses e, nesse tempo, já pudemos conhecer algumas facetas culturais do Brasil e da América Latina. Nosso objetivo principal sempre será desbravar do Oiapoque ao Chuí e para além das fronteiras físicas desse mundão.

Dessa vez, experimentaremos o nectar vindo diretamente da região sul do país. Nosso convidado de hoje é o querido Fruno, um dos novos expoentes da cena local de Balneário Camboriú. No encontro da singularidade multicultural entre os subgêneros, seus sets evidenciam uma sonoridade criativa e cativam de forma energética o diálogo com a pista.

Também conversa muito com o que eu tenho escutado e estudado atualmente na música, transpondo pra esse set essa mistura de sensações.

Another outstanding sun-kissed selection for The Sunset Lovers this week is coming from Amsterdam and one of those DJs being known for a reliable good taste, for genre-bending, one who’s taking you on journeys you never know where they end up, knowing it will be a good one, Sir Robert Ellerby aka Bobby Beige.

Bobby has held a permanent residency at the Garden Festival and bar in Croatia since 2004 after been invited to do the opening night of The Garden bar in Zadar with Sir Adam Regan and Steve Cobby, then becoming great friends with the Nick & Charlotte Colgan and being asked to oversee the music at the bar in Zadar in the summer months.

Bobby has released six albums and various 12’s under many pseudonyms, such as Opik, Bullitnuts with Murray Clarke, Deep Six with Steve Cobby and Momma Gravy with Remko Schouten, and has released records on labels, such as Deconstruction, Pork Recordings and Different Drummer. Also a mix series compellation CD for London’s Fabric in 2004 Fabric 18 after playing the club many times during the mid 2000’s!

More recent times he has also held a residency at a wonderful restaurant by the sea also in Ibiza called la Escollera you can find some links to these mixes on his Mixcloud page links below.

Living in Amsterdam Bobby and his friends Siba & Troy also did events under the “Melting Point “umbrella doing various events across Amsterdam and a regular show on Amsterdam’s ”Redlight Radio” which is sadly with us no more!

This selection of music for “The Sunset Lovers” is some tracks that have helped during the lockdown and curfew which is still happening in Netherlands, 
let’s hope for light at the end of this dark tunnel….

For the start of the new season we are headed straight to São Paulo and welcome Giu Nunez. She is resident of the DOMply party in Rio de Janeiro and hosts her own radio shows COSMOZÔNIA and RÁDIO PLOW, presenting rare digs and eclectic mixes of all blends of world music. 

In her contribution to this edition of the selector series she is taking us on an hour-long trip through sun-kissed African and Caribbean gems to breezy Brazilian Boogie and Disco, providing us with a high dose of tropical exuberance and bliss that is desperately needed in those gloomy times.
