Continuing the trajectory set by last year’s EPs and experimental long-player, Reeko returns to Samurai Music to deliver an expansive album that goes further into his experimental practice at the intersection of deep techno, drum & bass and electronica.

On Cryptophony, Rico continues this thread of exploration and uses the concept of inaudible or encrypted sounds as an inspirational jump-oﬀ point for an incredibly detailed, nuanced body of work. When meditative minimalism and insistent repetition are key compositional tools, the sound ﬁeld is opened up for subtlety in the spaces between notes, and that’s precisely the experience Rico has crafted across seven extended pieces.

“Crytophony explores how sound can conceal, suggest or reveal information in a symbolic, sensory or ritualistic way,” Rico explains. “I found it interesting as a first step to investigate further. There are no hidden messages in the music, but there are strange voices that, after the final process, sound transformed.”

“this mix explores the binaries of 150-160bpm. i’ve been really into cinematic ambient elements recently, so i thought i’d set the tone with a vocal piece from myself over some spacey spooky layers. i’ve been loving exploring how two tracks of the same bpm can bring you into a completely different headspace. from something heads down and chuggy, to fast dancing and over-stimulating (in the best way). i also haven’t done a mix like this before, so wanted to create something a little different to my usual output.” - Beaabea 

a call from outer space. alien-like transmissions that swirl into warm crawling soundscapes - enter the world of london-via-nottingham artist beaabea. 

born in nottingham but now based in london, beaabea has immersed herself in the city’s ever-changing musical landscape. from her early experiences of going to big pop arena shows and growing up in a musical household, beaabea (real name billie) instantly knew that music was something that she wanted to be involved in. at first this involvement was with bands and having one of her bucket list goals come true when she was part of her friend’s band, supporting easy life at their nottingham arena show. following that, billie says she had to chase all the things she thought she wanted to realise where she truly belongs, and that is her beaabea project. 

in the short while that her beaabea project has been in existence, billie is establishing herself as a standout voice in the underground music scene. from her debut single contribution to ema’s woozy imprint to her most recent ep release, ‘chrome abyss’ on amity, billie is carving out her artistic voice whilst as a dj she’s being booked at renowned london venues such as fold, corsica studios, mot and more. billie is also the founder of how did it get so long? (HDIGSL?) - a party, radio show, and mix series platforming women and gender-nonconforming djs with the aim to push for greater representation in electronic music.

Operating out of Toronto, Trailcam crafts dense music shaped by fractured percussion and dub's dislocation. Her approach to sound evokes a world that's constantly shifting with its clean edges eroded by repetition and drift. Transparent Sound was formed in the English seaside town of Bognor Regis by B-Boy Orson Bramley and guitarist Martin Brown who bonded over a love of hip hop, electro, 70's electronica, Visage, and Cabaret Voltaire. 

Whilst 100% serious about making music to move the dance floor, Transparent Sound never took themselves seriously, breaking with the electro tradition of being po-faced even down to the self-deprecating admission in press releases that they “don’t know how any of [their] equipment works”. 

This willingness to “fiddle and tinker until a good noise comes out” has gained Transparent Sound a cult following from fans including Helena Hauff, Ricardo Villalobos, Weatherall, Laurent Garnier, Mad Mike, and Robert Smith of The Cure (who asked TS to remix their single Wrong Number). The TS track No Call From New York, was named track of 2017 on both the Pete Tong Essential Mix, and the Btraits BBC Radio 1 shows. 

A retrospective of their work, Accidents 1994-2023, was released this year on Tresor, collecting dancefloor hits like Punk Mother Fucker, the afore-mentioned No Call From New York, as well as new versions of old material and a few unreleased gems. 

Martin recently hung up his disco shoes after recovering from a life-threatening illness. Orson continues Transparent Sound’s mission both in the studio through on-going productions, live hardware stage show, and DJ sets taking the trademark heavy bass and saw-wave buzz direct to the dancefloor.

Providing a mixtape that's filled with atmospheric instrumental house, deep chicago grooves, and a taste of idiosyncratic internet love is Russian producer and DJ Kito Jempere.

Initiating his career on Jimpster's Freerange Records, Kito Jempere has gone on releasing several EPs for labels such as Dirt Crew, Let's Play House, an obscured edits EP on the mysterious Bahnsteig 23, Retrofit (a collaboration EP with Jay Shepheard), and his intimate EP on Room With A View. Despite his low interest in remix duties, Kito has delivered fresh cuts for Red Snapper (Lo Recordings) and Miskotom (Pleasure Unit). Since 2014, he started his own label Fata Morgana, which released his worldwide his debut LP "Objects" via a hand-crafted exclusive 12-inch vinyl and CD wrapped in silk screen printing.

His Objects EP carved a name for him in the scene-based world - with multiple remix EPs of his music from artists such as HNNY, Jacques Renault, Ruf Dug, Juju & Jordash, OOFT!, Inkswel, Ptaki, Selvy, Titonton and Simple Symmetry. This year however, Kito will release his second full-length album on Germany/Italy imprint Hell Yeah Recordings and a double single on Polish Father & Son Records & Tapes. As a DJ, he's traveled the world performing in cities such as Chicago, Watergate in Berlin, and many others.

@kitojempere's 'Melnaa' is a revamp of Latvian song 'Melna dziesma' by Raimonds Pauls. In Sergeev's own words, the edit was meant "to make it longer, with less vocals and with more of a build-up". Even though the subtle edits might not catch your ear at first, listen closely and you'll realise the main changes lie in the song's general structure as Jempere fleshed-out its propulsive swing and rehashed its sequencing to turn it into a proper infectious cosmic jazz-funk groover.
