Few things bring more joy on Record Store day than the recent series of special Bardo Pond releases. This year features the fruits of an incredible collaboration with Japanese psych-experimentalists Acid Mothers Temple and Guru Guru, Acid Guru Pond.

Circadia might be your favorite new experimental psych-impro-folk band. With the stellar line-up of guitarists David Stackenäs and Kim Myhr, bassist Joe Williamson and drummer Tony Buck from The Necks, Circadia releases their debut recording on SOFA May 2016.

While the pared-down acoustic instrumentation may seem to be some kind of "back to basics" tip of the hat to folk styles, the music is much more than that. A tight rhythmic drive coupled with a nuanced concern for timbre, texture and dynamics gives Circadia it's unique sound. It's a band like few others.

Brainfeeder will release the debut album - Fool - from Dutchman Jameszoo on 13th May 2016 on CD and Digital formats. The LP format will follow. Described by the producer as "naive computer jazz", despite features from two bona fide legends - namely legendary jazz pianist and bandleader Steve Kuhn and Brazilian composer and arranger Arthur Verocai - it's a record that fits perfectly into the label’s expanding take on the modern evolution of jazz music, following outings by Kneebody & Daedelus, Thundercat and Kamasi Washington. This extraordinary album contains the results of five years' worth of research into new musical instruments and interfaces. Titled Meta Gesture Music: Embodied Interaction, New Instruments And Sonic Immersion, the anthology features musicians who crossed paths during Meta Gesture Music, a research project which ran between 2012–17 at London’s Goldsmiths College in order to explore new tools and techniques for experimental music making, from live computer coding to using bike lights and solar panels as instruments. 

The compilation contains new tracks by Goldsmiths professor of media computing Atau Tanaka, both solo and in duet with composer/pianist Sarah Nicolls, as well as Tom Richards performing on his Mini-Oramics set up, Kaffe Matthews making music with sharks in the sea, xname amplifying electromagnetic fields, Laetitia Sonami performing on her patented Spring Spyre, plus Leafcutter John, Renick Bell & Steph Horak, Dane Law, and Ewa Justka.

A sonic expedition that traces the serrated coastline and briny depths of the North Sea, Kystverk sees Kit's resident lifeguard and aqua aficionado Roméo Poirier joining forces with Norwegian poet Lars Haga Raavand. Four years in the making, Kystverk's palette is intoxicatingly vast: a sighing mass in turns opaque and rich with life. Swells of strings and electronics plunge fathoms deep amongst the clicks and whirrs of creatures unknown. Discordant, Copland-esque brass emerges, like some menacing flotsam, and mesmerising tows of piano chords recall the disjointed harmonies of Jonny Greenwood or Murcof. Then, to cement the trance, Raavand lilts and enounces delicately, before he too is swallowed up.
