My little holiday project with Garageband and Ian's midi controller. This song was written when my grandaunt passed last year and has lyrics but because I'm not singer material thus the sampled guitar. I know it sounds like a cross between banjo and some other Chinese plucking instrument, sorry!

What Can I Do

This jazz waltz standard written by an American jazz trombonist named Frank Rosolino might seem timid and harmless at first glance, something that any beginner jazz musician could just sight read through it. However, there is more to this tune than just an ordinary jazz standard.

The most noticeable unique element that sets "Blue Daniel" aside from other jazz standards is the unusual 14 bars in 3/4 time instead of the usual 12 bars or 32 bars in 4/4 time, which makes it a challenge to keep track of the form when it comes to the solo section as there is a tendency to customize the ind to the usual 12 bars per head form. The numerous ii-V chord progressions in the tune compensates for the irregularity caused by the unusual number of bars in a form, giving the tune a sense of stability and providing the listeners something more familiar to follow.

Graduated from UCSI University under the B.Mus.(Hons.) Contemporary Music program.

Played with the KL Youth Jazz Orchestra under the coach of two renowned saxophonists Julian Chan and Patrick Terbrack from June 2011 to December 2012. Joined Fazz in May 2013 as part of their addition of a horn section to the existing band. Currently playing with Swing Maniac, a saxophone quartet initiated by KitTeng herself.

Worked at Sri Cempaka Cheras under the Cempaka Performing Arts Company from August 2012 - November 2012 as part of internship of the B.Mus.(Hons.) Contemporary Music program at UCSI University. Currently a saxophone and piano instructor at Musician Story since January 2013 and plays with the Orchestra Kuala Lumpur under the wings of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur since August 2014.
