As spring dawns, Rhythm Section International go from Local Artist to a pair of very ‘local’ artists - Peckham’s very own Chris Watson + Chris Coupe; otherwise known as FYI CHRIS , who present the ‘Back In The Millennium’ EP as the labels 5th offering.

The EP was born after a rather hazy late night listening session at Rhythm Section HQ, where bossman Bradley Zero was instantly beguiled by the Duo’s hypnotic and rhythmically complex arrangements. 
The record begins abrasively with the trance-inducing mechanical stutter of 'back in the millennium', before shuffling into downbeat number ‘Jeru'  and then picks things up with the peak time groove of ‘need i say more’  before bringing us back down to earth with the melancholic acid bump of 'dedication’.

Heard You're Doing Well, the second single from THIS PLACE EP, due out end of june,  is a brooding track that sees Retiree exploring interesting progressions and instrumentation. The song builds organically from a melancholic organ ballad into a slo mo boogie track as Tori's (vocalist) dad Paul Holleman contributes layered saxophone lines.
The lyrics of the song are an overdue conversation to a friend that is gone.

It's the kind of tune that just might change your summer from 'good' to 'unforgettable', with it's lush, laid-back rhythm and melancholic sun drenched melodies. Perfectly at home on the beach or below the setting sun.
Really proud of this and most happy to be involved in this project with Plastic World Sydney.

Rarely has house music been so fun yet so musical. Live bass-tip toes over an ocean of synth stabs and piano chords to create an anthemnic track that’s sure to be the soundtrack to long summer nights and early mornings….
We don’t know where the RS crew keep finding these gems, but long may it continue. String theory tick so many boxes we just can’t wait to hear more...

Bolting Bits favourites Rhythm Section are continuing to showcase their impeccable A&R skills with the perpetual search for new and raw talent from across the globe. Next up on the docket for the South London imprint headed by Bradley Zero is a four track EP from String Theory, the 21st release on the label. We struggled to unearth any info on the Glaswegian production duo and there may not be any as of yet, considering this is their debut EP. This gives us all the more reason to dive straight into the music.

A four tracker that impeccably nestles itself in among the ranks of Rhythm Section International's already laudable discography, the "Modularity" EP combines a number of different elements and influences to form a polished selection of tunes. The aptly titled release has a heavy use of modular synthesis throughout the tracks, but that's not what makes it stand out. It's the way that it is combined with raw instrumentation and jazzy influences that's really got us singing this mysterious Scottish duo's praises.

Shifting our focus to the premiere, Con Moto does exactly what we just described. A bouncy rhythm and jazzy chords alongside a blooping modular synth line open this one up until the live bass takes centre stage, strutting its stuff along. This call and response takes place a number of times throughout, all while the different instruments try and take the spotlight from the bass, at times managing to find equilibrium all together. From the swelling strings and chords to the surprise cheeky organ and sultry, squelchy synth line, this is one instrument battle we can't stop listening to. Melbourne’s 30/70 join forces with London and Australia’s South East elite beat-makers to deliver ‘Fluid Motion: Remixed’ on Rhythm Section International.

After the fruits of 2018’s luminous and lifted ‘Elevations’ iteration, we were keen to see how the rich, soulful and instrumental layers of last Summer’s ‘Fluid Motion’ LP could be reimagined by some of the key players in our mutual musical scenes. So, we invited a selection of our nearest and dearest to create their take on the track from the record that spoke to them most.

The ‘Fluid Motion: Remixed’ EP expands the album’s effortless eclecticism but offers energies more suited to the dancefloor that we’re missing oh so much. The first single comes from fellow label affiliates SAUL who kick things off with a bouncy breaks flip of N.Y.P., transforming it’s tender tones into a bright and lively party starter. It’s followed up by Peckham’s hazy house producers, Athlete Whippet, who inject ’Tempted’ with foot-stomping percussion and a moody electronic groove. We then move to the Southern Hemisphere with Close Counters, who serve up an ‘Impermanence’ rework that journeys from sweaty bruk stylings to a sunny club chug. Setwun amps up the heat of Allysha’s pacey lyrical performance in title track ‘Fluid Motion' with squelchy low-swinging synths, showcasing his signature fusion of dance and funk. From Sydney’s self-proclaimed ‘Soulstranaut’ to “the Dilla of Deptford” (STW), Maxwell Owin chops up ‘Tempted’ with a vigorous chasing tempo, twinkling glitches, a plunging bassy breakdown and seductive whispers to propel his gritty-city sonic aesthetic into a far-flung atmospheric nebula.

The Fluid Motion remix project sees the musical worlds of SE16 and Melbourne meet once again, proving it to be an alliance that just keeps on giving.
