When I think about East of Eden I think about the weight of regret and how easy it is to run from God when shame feels louder than His voice. The song is my confession that I know what it feels like to step outside of His will and carry the burden of choices that cannot be undone. The image of Eden closed off is so real to me because sometimes I feel like I have lost something I can never get back.
But even in that place God does not stop calling. His mercy is still there, following me into the wilderness. The song is heavy with longing and with grief, but it is also about the hope that Christ has planted a cross right where I should have been left to die. That is the only way back to life.
