Support from Daniel Avery, Andrew Weatherall and other trendsetting peers and luminaries has ensured that Kiwi & Ashworth have jumped from ones to watch to this year’s pace setters… 

New East London imprint Sneaky hit the ground running with a well heralded release from young guns Silk 86 late autumn and follow up with this luscious slab of euphoric, ambient at times, forward thinking house music. 

The lead track 'UCX3' is a drawn-out, gradually swelling, half-euphoric-half-pumping roller, Zubr is a haunting, mellow piece, featuring Joe showing his prowess on a 1960s Wurlitzer. The track is drenched in the accidental noise, pops and clicks involved in using something so old, and this gives the track it's comforting charm. 

Arguably the wild card of the release, 'Dusk,' stays clear of the drum machines, and paints a subtley epic picture with a reverb-drenched piano and folkey violin drones, all being driven forwards by an ominous pulsating Moog bass. 

Sneaky Music... 

With releases & another record label under their respective belts, Sneaky was an idea for a label and party cooked up by good friends Pablo Ranacat and Andy Bird over some serious late night partying, and epic mid afternoon steaks & red wine sessions and now a reality really seems to be finding it’s feet with this second release. Analogue synths and programming combined with a very current and London sound sets a marker in the sand for this exciting new label’s next releases. And with names of the like Nicholas, Rick Wade and the label bosses themselves thrown into the mix we’re expecting good things.

I've thought long and I hard about sharing this recording, Andrew and spoke about putting it up before he died, but I haven't been able to bring myself to share until now. At the time it was probably the biggest gig of my career. It felt monumental doing to 6000 people on that ship, Thanks to Annie and Rob for putting us on. It's funny because I still revisit the playlist I made for this gig now and so many of these records still haven't left my bag.

Today it is 2 years since Andrew passed, thankyou for the music and all the support dear friend.

Qtier is Adam and Howard, two London-based electronic musicians who make beautiful, captivating music for the city. Having announced their arrival earlier this year with the massive Still EP, now they’re back with The Cards, a stunning collection of tracks set for release on BPitch Control, the prestigious Berlin electronic label responsible for releases from Apparat, Modeselektor and it’s esteemed label boss Ellen Allien.  For Qtier, The Cards EP is about control, adoration and perception, all viewed through the prism of what electronic music means to them.

It’s the collision of Adam’s breathtaking, tender vocals, and Howard’s forward thinking electronics that makes this outfit’s sound so remarkable. With both members coming from such diverse musical places, the marriage of their differences creates a unique union of genuine, heartfelt songwriting with exceptional production.  The first offering from Qtier became an instant sensation, with big support coming from BBC 6 Music, The Fly and XFM, marking them out as a band on the verge of something very special.

Adding drums to the live line-up, their first ever outing was a mesmerizing performance at a now infamous house party in South London. Since then, 2013 saw the band have play to packed crowds at a string of unusual spaces; receiving lavish praise from Time Out for their masterful live interpretations of their studio productions.

Kiwi's riveting Animals EP was such a success across the globe's dance-floors that Duke Dumont's Blasé Boys Club have returned with a clutch of searing-hot remixes delivered by some of the most revered and talented production names on the underground scene; Brassica, Man Power and In Flagranti.

Blasé Boys Club are providing an outlet for dance music with less of a pop edge, instead giving fresh talent the room to breathe and develop. Dumont's A&R talents found Alex Warren, a wild gun who's moulding serious dance-floor weapons with everything he touches. Fusing together elements ofelectro groove and techno stomp across the Animals EP, this new remix package comes equipped with four brand-new versions that stand alone as works in their own right.

First up, Brassica turns his attention to Short Tail, stripping back the jack of the original and it's previously galvanized, pulsing bassline. Instead, it's replaced with a healthy injection of rubber, springing and swooping through an eerie tapestry before melodic and uplifting synths drop on the break while driving bass subtly gives the track a solid foundation.

Next, Fossa is tackled by inimitable disco house duo In-Flagranti. The US hailing pair bring their effect heavy, percussive layered groove to the EP, with trippy, EQ'd top-line melodies and grooving, percussive slo-mo rhythm, whilst Takura's heavy breathing adorns the track as it gently weaves and cascades through tone and melody.

Man Power's Speific State Remix of Atlanticus is a complete departure from it's original guise. Its low- jam, electro breaks and down-tempo composition are changed into a firing, pulsing lazer bass romp. A warehouse track with unrelenting ticks, hisses and driving bassline, this techno beast will be one for fans of recent tracks by Bristol's Livity Sound label and fans of Boddika's output.
Rounding off the EP is main-man Kiwi himself, re-rubbing closing track Pelican. It’s tuff original feel is brought down in tempo and pace, retaining it’s Balearic groove but stripping the fluctuating basslines for more whistling melodic rhythms. It’s compressed and tightly wound feel is relaxed on this cosmic- tinged trip, giving it a dynamic and airy feel as the notes find room to breathe and flourish.

London-based DJ and producer Kiwi aka Alex Warren is set to release new track ‘Shiba Inu’ on 26th February 2016 via Duke Dumont’s Blasé Boys Club label. The single is his second release for the burgeoning imprint, following a very well received debut EP for them in the form of ‘Animals’, which saw A-side ‘Short Tail’ go on to be named one of the top ten tunes of last year by DJ Mag.

Kiwi’s DJ sets and productions take in Balearic, Disco, Soul, Detroit Techno, House and everything in between without ever letting up on the dance floor. He has progressively become one of the most exciting young producers in UK electronic music with previous releases on Defected, Sneaky, Needwant, Kitsune and Friendly Fires’ Deep Shit label as well as a string of remixes for Duke Dumont, Who Made Who, Few Nolder, Is Tropical, Petite Meller and Lane 8 all helping him notch up over 1 million plays on Soundcloud.

The list of supports and fans of Kiwi is like a who’s who of the best in dance music today, with the legendary heavyweights Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey and Erol Alkan all spinning his productions (Weatherall even jumped on board for a B2B with him at last year’s Bestival) as well as Daniel Avery, Rob da Bank, Annie Mac and Skream amongst others.

With all this love Kiwi has taken his music and DJ sets around Europe; appearing at Manchester’s The Warehouse Project, Palais De Tokyo in Paris, Razzmatazz in Barcelona and many more.

Alex ‘Kiwi’ Warren’s passion for music has been a fire that has long burned within. From humble beginnings as an in-house photographer for the world-famous DURRR club-night, started by Erol Alkan’s much celebrated Trash team, to the runaway success of his own club nights, it’s his prolific productions and genre blending extended dj sets that are now catapulting him into the spotlight .
Warren’s success as a one-man promotions company, cultivating his ever popular club-night, Orlando Boom and its disco-focussed sister night, Kate Boss, caught the attention of The Columbo Group who swiftly appointed him as their booking and promotions manager for The Nest.

Kiwi soon realised that he had more to offer than just his promoter skills and he began to channel his energy into playing and creating music. Releases on Days of Being Wild, Jack Savidge and Edwin Congreave’s highly acclaimed Deep Shit, DFTD, Optimo, Moda Black, Sneaky Music and Virgin EMI followed, and in 2015, his track Short Tail was nominated for Song Of The Year at the DJ Mag Best Of British awards. He’s produced an abundance of remixes for high-profile artists such as; Who Made Who, Locassolus, Paramida, Is Tropical, The Klaxons and more. This incredible output has earned him a wealth of support from some of the scenes biggest names including; Andrew Weatherall, DJ Harvey, Gerd Janson, Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan, Optimo, Rob da Bank, Annie Mac and Skream.

2017 saw the release of his Orca EP on Bristol’s Futureboogie imprint with the title track receiving rave reviews in Mixmag and topping the dance charts on Juno and Beatport for seven weeks. This was swiftly followed by releases on Dusky’s 17 steps, and a vinyl-only release alongside Joakim on DJ Tennis’ Life and Death. As well as being busy in the studio, Kiwi has also been out on the road touring Asia twice, North America and Europe. Add to that a packed festival season and holding down his residency at XOYO in London, Kiwi has carved out a name for himself with his all night long DJ sets that effortlessly blend balearic, disco, house, Detroit techno and everything in between.

2018 was a big one for the DJ Mag nominee, with a string of releases gaining notoriety on the likes of Moscoman’s Disco Halal and a new one for 17 Steps, as well as a return to Correspondent and releases on Cin Cin and Needwant to come.

2019 marked a pivotal milestone in Alex’s career. In April, he launched his brand new imprint Crossbreed, with the inaugural CRBD01 released in conjunction with Italy’s finest export DJ Rocca. The ethos of the label is the notion that working together breeds great things, and it is not hard to see this belief in the debut EP.

Having made a strong start with the first three collaborative releases, the label continues into 2020 as a mouthpiece to showcase records that represent Alex’s ideas; and with a knack for selecting off-kilter, leftfield releases, Crossbreed is set to make impressive waves within the electronic music scene.
