Get This Party Started

by Tchaikovsky.  I love this song with my whole heart. I first heard it on an episode of the excellent (but, sadly, cancelled) Kings. It's simple and beautiful and somber and tragic. 

If anyone knows where I can find similar music, I'd love to hear it. (Except Philip Glass. I have like 30 hours worth of his music to sort through.)


The Sick Doll

There are like a bajillion reasons why I should hate this song. Like how it's featured in a ridiculously arrogant movie about some dude's man-crush on himself. Or that it's prime Zach Braff-Garden State music (We're totally over ZB now, ever since he broke Mandy Moore's heart. The douche.). Or maybe because I got a copy of this song from one of the Mix CDs my brother's girlfriend gave him.

That said, I still totally dig Schuyler Fisk and the, like, 3 songs of hers that I've heard. It's a nice, simple song; chill, upbeat, and perfect for just lazing around in bed (which I'm totally doing right now. So yay me.).

From Where I'm Standing

From the Beyond Good and Evil soundtrack.

I have no idea who does the music to this game, but this song is so great. Even better? It plays on the loading screen when you install the game. Right away, you get a feel for how awesome the game's going to be.

It sounds sort of smoky and shifty, like something you'd hear playing in the background of a prohibition-era bootleg operation (alternatively: on the Grim Fandango soundtrack). Plus, considering the only word in the entire song is "Propaganda", you know the game's gonna be good.

Full disclosure: I just recently discovered BG&E a couple years ago. But It's a fun little game, and I'm super excited for the (maybe, sort of, probably, man I hope) sequel that they're talking about.
