Klaus Benedek - Blew My Mind

Fortunea Records starts off 2023 with the 4th edition of their VA-series ‚Fortunea Cookies‘ to highlight the status quo in Austrian house music.

A band that is generating buzz in this country right now is Spitting Ibex. Their music is a mixture of funk and heavy rock, in the style of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Prince and Rage Against The Machine. Currently they are touring with their brand-new album‚ E.G.O.‘ through Europe and Peletronic had the honor to remix the title-track of their previous record ‚Love Hate Fear Fate‘. In this ‚Disko Miks’ he transforms the song into a driving house weapon.

In 2021 Nick Hanzo released his ‚Candy Places‘ EP. And on this record was a memorable abstract lo-fi house track called ‚Saturn Nate’ that gets on FC4 a treatment by Klaus Benedek. In this new version he accelerates the speed and focuses even more on the aspect of space travel with the addition of sound fx, pads, pianos and a Italo disco-inspired baseline.

Of course this release has not only remixes of previous tracks, but also 2 originals! The B-side features Dzc. again with her ‚Expressions‘ of night culture. Caution! This will catapult the crowd up to new heights. An energetic peak-time tune that delves deep into 90s house and trance sonic images.

And finally Markus Quittner returns from Linz and brought his ‚Game‘ to the table. A board full of bouncing dices, strong drum patterns and funky orchestrations. A pleasure for the ears.

Fortunea Cookies Vol. 4 will come out on the 31st of march 2023 in its digital form and later this year on white limited vinyl too. Don’t sleep on this!

Klaus Benedek - Still Daydreaming EP

After a long hiatus Klaus Benedek comes back on his own mothership Fortunea Records with a brand-new production. ‚Tombstone’ heralds the autumn. You can feel the melancholy that brings the end of the warm and bright days with it. Although the subject matter is dark and eerie, the track wanders with its epic instrumentation through pensive optimism. The remarkable chopped hookline and the concise and soft bassline are casted in a flowing deep sounded carpet full of hope. An epic excursion that you definitely should give a try.

A considerable move into a different sound sphere goes Berlin-based artist and Tieffrequent-founder Siggatunez. He has had an outstanding array of vital productions this year and with his remix he lets you „feel the unknown“. In a very detailed way he made a serious dancefloor intended track, in the signature style of his current output, where beats and groove take the lead, but keeping the soul of the original with the use of its pads, strings and bass.

Tombstone will come out on limited 200 copy vinyl and in its digital form on streaming services and download stores on the 27th of october. There will be no repress!

Klaus Benedek’s first EP on Colour In Music is here! ’To The Moon’ EP contains three original tracks and a remix from Ethan Poe, a Spaniard electronic musician who started creating his own electronic music in the mid/ late 90's.

‘To The Moon’ starts off rather slowly but picks up and maintains the tempo. Klaus first track is infused with electronic hums and jazz tunes that would have heads bobbing in no time. Audible vocal snippets are also featured far and in between throughout the piece and this just provides a perfect mix to the funky stabs of this song that gives a soothing feel and can help bring calm to tense dance floors.

Ethan Poe decided to pick up the tempo in his remix of ‘To The Moon’. The low thudding kick and the fat synth basslines he added can have listeners swaying in no time. As such, this mix is dance floor-worthy. The jazzy drums added further helps to bring to the fore the depth Ethan added to the song.

On ’Trembling’, this fast-paced song that is devoid of vocals is one that has lots of drumming and tough pumping rhythm. Aside from the funky stabs added to it, the overlapping of soft and dense tones in between it just helps create a groovy coherence in this piece that is made complete with a bass feeling.

’Don't Play With Me’ is the last track of the EP. This minimalistic piece is upbeat and has a nice infusion of drums and filtered vocal bits that help make it dance-worthy. With a rapid tempo and seemingly playful style, this piece is also infused with classic chords that would have heads bobbing from start to finish.

The Austrian electronic music label fortunea is operating since over 4 years. 9 records have been released so far. For the 10th issue they laced a very special vinyl package! 8 tracks by Viennese and Upper Austrian local heroes have been placed on 2 vinyl.

The A-side begins with an uplifting opener by Step Back Trax honcho Jon Gravy, followed by a deep, raw house stomper by Peletronic.

Klaus Benedek calls out „The Power of Sweat“ on B1, while celeste resident dj HANZO, the new member of the bunch, shows his love for experimental lo fi sounds in „Veni Vide“.

Alex Kolodziej comes back with a saxophonist to curb vulgar utterances, while Roman Rauch and Precious K team up again after more than 5 years as their Twinpeaks moniker.

From the suburbs of Steyr comes Johann Destroy. In „Wax Mining“ he collaborated with Vöcklabruck’s house head Lukas Poellauer (here as LP.) on a peaktime crossover tune.

Last but not least Lee Stevens from Luv Shack Records finishes this compilation with a sunny, chill out vibed for the „Magharibi“ (sunset, translated in swahili).

This summer fortunea head Klaus Benedek returns with a 2 track single!

The A-side features the title track „At The Shore“ and is not only a fitting piece for sunset and afterhour sessions. It brings back nostalgic memories of a simpler, laid-back and peaceful time on the beach. A smoove guitar is the key element in this track. It builds up to a break that dives into the waves of the ocean. Almost siren sounding vocal cut ups splash threw this journey and a beautiful, haunting pad is giving it the icing on the cake.

  The B-side -- although in a similar vibe as the title track -- has a more somber feeling to it. „South Bronx Depression“ reflects the mood of the troubled New York neighbourhood during the 70s and 80s. A pompous jazz fanfare has been sampled, filtered, chopped and transformed as the track’s hookline. Eerie synthesizer stings make their entrance, while the narrator tells his story.

3 years have past since the release of the Fortunea Cookies Vol. 2 ep. Now, the Viennese label is resurrecting their various artists collection with a third entry.
 
The A-side begins with a smooth deep house piece by LeSale. Dreamy strings and sparkling pads chime together with a thriving funky bassline. A beautiful opener for estival sunset moments.
 
Peletronic and Klaus Benedek team up together on A2 with some ‚Analogue Kinda Funk‘. Finished during the lockdown while sending the project back and forth over the web, this track gives you an eerie and compelling feeling of the Zeitgeist we are living in right now. Dark reverberant percs, a crunchy guitar and a stunning drum beat will turn your flat into a club for sure.
 
The B-side features a new member on the fortunea roster. Dzc. is a young and talented dj and producer and this is her first production that is coming out. It’s called ‚The Truth‘ and is a well made peaktime track and a homage of early to late 90s house, techno and trance music.
 
Lukas Poellauer finishes this record. But not alone! He brought Schreder with him and together they make a ‚Midnight Ride‘ through a melancholic, acid-fulfilled desert.

fortunea Radioshow #44 // hosted by Klaus Benedek 2020-10-21

Klaus Benedek grew up in a small town near Vienna. His interest in electronic music began during the 90s techno hype. He spent hours watching video clips on MTV and viva and thus gaining knowledge about electronic music. In 2004, he began teaching himself to produce. Gathering his inspiration wherever he could, he began collecting 12" vinyl records the same year and 2 years later got his first dj-gigs. From 2008 till 2010 he was one of the resident DJs at the MNML Thursdays in the Camera Club. In 2012 he started with Alex Kolodziej the event-series Tellerbetrieb. Currently he finds most of his inspiration in Chicago House, Deep House, Disco and Breakbeat. After releases on labels like Petrol Dollar, Subversaal, rekooda, Soul Shift Music, Clean and Dirty Recordings and tanzbar, Klaus launched his own label forTunea in 2014.
