I just found out where this came from and lemme just say… I fw it I ain’t even gon lie

Just a quick recreation of a track from Yu-Peng Chen's amazing Genshin Impact soundtrack. This is from the Dragonspine expansion that added a gorgeous snowy mountain area.

Made over the course of a spare hour-and-a-half mainly to deconstruct/reconstruct the original and learn things, and keep my mock up skills from going rusty.

Strings - 
    Spitfire Chamber Strings, 
    Spitfire Albion (to thicken), 
    Spitfire Solo Strings (when it builds)
Woods - 
    Spitfire Symphonic Woods
Percussion - 
    Spitfire Percussion
    Spitfire Harp

Things learnt - 
    Spitfire is a close match to the original sound (Genshin Mondstadt was recorded in the same hall with a very similar setup)
    Need to experiment with mixing a bit more. I tend to always use the tree mics for Spitfire things, whereas the Genshin soundtrack has quite a bit more close mic (panning, player ambience/sounds).
    I should utilise the low strings more to contrast the melody being played and give a bit of variation.
    I need to have a child so that I can sacrifice it to the orchestration Gods in exchange for a miniscule % of Yu-Peng Chen's skillz.

The music, to me, is very reminiscent of Howl's Moving Castle.

I had an idea of the structure and development of this track quite quickly. Young grass tempted to deviate by sequences entering from either side, temptation resisted, unbent growth represented by a final melody. Decided to use VCV Rack for this one. As I was going to be assembling the elements in a live mix I knew I wouldn't be able to play the final melody and manipulate everything else, hence VCV I was able to assemble the melody as multiple sequenced blocks that are played randomly, leaving my hands free for other things.  There is a lot of subtle modulation in each of the elements some of which had to automated; even using PatchMaster from MindMeld to set up performance macros where one knob controls multiple things I quickly ran out of physical controls; so like the melody I made a few practical compromises in what I manipulated live.  

I set everything up to record live to multiple tracks giving me the freedom to tweak the mix during the mastering stage. Other than EQ, saturation and gentle compression on both individual tracks and the master; the only extra effect I added is a very light touch of K7D - Tape Delay from imaginando on both sequences, the subtle ping-pong echoes integrated them intp the whole.
