Finally, after 3 days of flying from the witch’s forest in Flanders, Hekske (the little witch) and Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) saw the imposing contours of Mount Damavand (دماوند)
in the distance.  After a quick ‘kiss & fly’ visit to Falke’s soul mate Esfandiar (اسفنديار,) they flew in south-eastern direction until they spotted a group of local Persian witches at the foot of a very old tree.  After a long welcome hug, the eldest witch explained that this tree is the famous Cypress of Abarkuh (سرو ابرکوه) which had been planted almost 5000 years ago.
During the next few minutes, witches arrived from all wind directions. Some of them even came from faraway places like the Tian Shan or Hindu Kush mountains.  After welcoming all their guests, it became clear that the Persian witches were all wearing an elegant head scarf.  However, none of their guests were wearing head scarves, so they were all curious.  The hosts allowed their guests to touch and feel their soft silk scarfs and admire the subtle pastel colors.  At the same time, the Persian witches gently caressed the long hair of all their guests, and they were particularly fascinated by Falke’s long blond hair.
At one point an Uzbek witch asked why all Persian witches were wearing head scarfs.  A young witch replied that they did so because the elder witches told them so.  Then they asked the eldest witch and she replied that in her younger days she followed the instructions of her elders, but she couldn’t give a particular reason.  Then Falke added ‘So you mean there’s no reason?’.  A long awkward silence followed and all the Persian witches were looking at each other.  Then the eldest witch smiled and took off her head scarf, letting her hair hang loose for the first time in 374 years.  Her example was followed by all the Persian witches and they all let their beautiful black hair hang down.  They stroked and played with each other’s hair, while giggling continuously.  After a while, a young Persian witch felt a special energy she had never felt before.  She tried out a magic spell, and to her great surprise, it was way more powerful than before.  Also the other Persian witches suddenly felt that they had greater powers than before.  Could it be that their head scarf had diminished their true potential all the time?  Meanwhile, the foreign witches were all fascinated by the silk head scarfs, and the Persian witches taught them how to wear them in an elegant way.  Also Hekske and Falke donned a scarf, and looked at each other.  Strangely, after a few minutes Hekske felt a special energy she had never felt before.  She tried out a magic spell, and to her great surprise, it was way more powerful than before.  Also the other foreign witches suddenly felt that they had greater powers than before.  Now they were all puzzled.  This just didn’t make sense.  So the Persian witches got superpowers after shedding  the head scarf while the foreign witches got superpowers after donning the head scarf.  Then an old Turkmen witch got it.  She jumped up and said ‘The reason why we suddenly feel so empowered is because we now have a choice’.  In order to test this theory, some Persian witches put their head scarf back on and they all felt that their increased powers were still intact.  This was the start of a long day and a long night full of mystic ceremonies.  And the next morning all foreign witches flew back to their home forests.  They all got a head scarf as a farewell gift.  And all the Persian witches waved goodbye.  Roughly one half of them was wearing a head scarf and the other half wasn’t …

Klik & Frik - Gato Negro (Daniel Hokum & okuma Remix)

Aliens, fever dreams, false awakenings, searing electric guitars and of course the marimba are ever-present in the new single “Chucha” from Mexico’s cumbia punks Son Rompe Pera, out today on AYA Records. With this single they also announce the release of their forthcoming album Chimborazo on March 10. 

The track is in stark contrast to what listeners hear on their first LP "Batuco" (2020), a now-cult-classic marked by traditional folk and cumbia songs that they recorded, nearly by accident, on a 4-track at Perros Con Tiña Studios in Santiago, Chile. “Chucha'', and the album that contains it, reflects the vibrant, ruthless, punk spirit of their live show that they’ve since taken across Mexico, the US and Europe. The band has grown considerably since the release of "Batuco" - touring with bands like Panteon Rococo, Fishbone, The Gimme Gimmes and beyond while watching fiery marimba mosh pits break out at every show- the lines between cumbia and punk getting increasingly blurry, and their sound becoming clearer. 

“Chucha” is the group’s first truly original composition. It’s is based on a dream that Mongo (Allan Gama- composer, vocalist, marimbista) couldn’t wake up from- “I was dreaming of playing a show with La Floripondio,” he says, referring to the Chilean dub/punk band that often invites Son Rompe Pera to perform with them. “Everyone was talking, but they just kept saying ‘chucha chucha chucha' all the time. I couldn’t understand anything. Then they played a song where they sang ‘chuuuchaaa’ and the crowd sang along, and it was then that I was startled awake by a loud noise. I laid in bed and heard sounds coming from all around me, and then saw strange lights shining into my room. Terrified and not knowing what to do, I got up, looked out the window and saw a spaceship filled with little aliens. At that point, I was scared to death and screamed in terror— ‘Chucha!’—and then I woke up again! I was in my bed, it had all been a dream within a dream and I was sweating and not even sure if I was really even awake at that point. So I hid under the covers, not knowing if the aliens were there or the Chileans or what …”. The song took many takes to record, and ultimately the one that made the cut was the last one- ‘That final take is what is on the record. It’s me giving it my last possible breath, mixing desperation with stage fright, nightmares and aliens, and I think it sounds pretty spot on,’ says Mongo.

“Chucha” is a statement of intent, adding another chapter to the group’s against-all-odds story and unlikely rise to international fame. As kids, they spent years busing in the streets with the marimba alongside their father. As teens, they rebelled against the iconic instrument, joining punk and psychobilly bands that involved everything but playing the marimba. With Son Rompe Pera, however, Mongo and his brothers Kacho and Kilos have brought it all together, updating the marimba’s place in history while bringing it to the world’s biggest stages and playing the instrument like no one ever has.

The forthcoming album from Son Rompe Pera, "Chimborazo", was recorded during a week-long session in early 2022 at Mambo Negro Studios in Bogotá, Colombia and produced by Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero, Ondatrópica, Los Pirañas). 

"Chimborazo" is out on March 10.

Modern societies have been treating Mother Earth as if it was their property; extracting resources, polluting constantly, changing the landscape, killing the other animals and destroying its natural balance.

Since the Industrial Revolution, humanity has killed 83% of all wild mammals and half of all plants of the Earth. Two hundred species of living beings are going extinct every single day. We collectively need to change so many things in areas such as the use of plastic, meat consumption, contaminating energies, day to day overconsumption and more. How can artists raise awareness regarding this?

Thinking on how to be simple but at the same time Universal, Cosmovision Records presents ¨Animals of the Earth¨. For this project we have gathered to co-create an ecosystem that lives in a music album. Producers from many places on Earth explored their connections with our animal cousins, remembering that the monkey, the wolf, the polar beer and all the others are our partners in the long trip that this green and lively planet takes in the Universe.

We invite you to come with us on this journey through the musical ecosystem of the ¨Animals of the Earth vol.2¨ to discover, respect and care for these beautiful beings that live with us.

The new collaborative release between Folcore Records (Barcelona) and Fértil Discos (Buenos Aires)

A double album made up of remixes of the vinyl released in 2019 "El Camino de Leda" that featured the participation of Chancha Via Circuito, La Charo, Uji, Shaman Herrera, Tremor, Barda, El Remolón, Soema Montenegro, Dat García, King Coya , Pol Nada and more representatives, both of the organic electronic sound of Buenos Aires and singers of contemporary Argentine folk and urban music.

This time, artists from different latitudes remix the tracks of the original ones to create new sounds in song format, to make them suitable for the dance floor in slow mode and also to listening them on any occasion. It has the participation of Klik & Frik, Rodrigo Gallardo, Guazú, Derrok, Tribilin Sound, Carla Valenti, Qechuaboi, Lucas Lead, Mente Orgánica, Nixtamal just to mention some of the collaborations.

El Camino de Leda Remixes Vol.1 and Vol.2 is a new tribute to Leda Valladares, two volumes that include 10 songs each. Available on all streaming platforms.

Im working on a massive update, lots of new songs and new lists.
