We finally got some sun! To celebrate that (and because it's been a while) I put together some current favs of mine to warm up this barely there spring.

I've been browsing through my hard drives recently and discovered lots and lots of mostly finished tunes that never got a release. Mostly simply because they didn't fit with other tunes I was releasing, or maybe sometimes also because I like them more now than I did at the time. Nevertheless, I don't want them to just lay around there forever collecting digital dust, so I made a little mixtape out of some it. Maybe I'll throw the tunes on Bandcamp sometime, don't know yet. Also there's a lot more, so maybe a part II will follow at some point... ;)

A highlight from their trippy rabbit hole of an album „Schne*e“, Johannes grabs the already slowly brooding „Fttfhttp“ and meanly holds the magnifying glass over its components to bring them to their boiling point.

Johannes himself says: „Das Ende Der Liebe are dear friends of mine and simultaneously one of my favorite bands, so I’m really happy to provide this rework for them. I took the ingredients of this tune, threw them into the blender and stitched them back together like Frankenstein's Monster. From firsthand experience, I can report that this track melts faces on the dancefloor, so handle with care!“

Eberhard Schoener - Why Don't You Answer (JK Edit)

Ancient Future Now co-runner Johannes Klingebiel joins forces with singer and multi-instrumentalist Johanna Klein (known for her alternative pop project Liv Alma) to fuse into JKJK. While the naming process of the project might look a little trivial (because it is), the music of the pair is anything but. Their debut EP „Constellations“ is a splash of a broad color palette thrown onto the monochrome landscape that is our contemporary club music scene, elegantly hazing genre boundaries and creating their own world of pop-infused club music (or club-infused pop music?) in the process.

„Silky Days“ might be one of those addictive tunes that never leave your daily listening playlists after hearing them the first time, with their effortless-seeming infusion of acoustic elements like guitar and drums evoking shades of the solo works of Thom Yorke or 90s Trip Hop á la Portishead or Massive Attack updated to 2020s aesthetics.

Last year’s FTTFHTTP remix already was a grand gesture of friendship – here though the connection articulates itself quite differently: Not being a concrete slab of freely interpreted samples like the former, with ‘Mint (Johannes Klingebiel’s Near Mint Remix)’ Klingebiel honors the band with fine quotes and structures, expressing musical understanding and appreciation – decidedly complex, challenging, and yes, artistic.

The end of the year is near, and so is the end of @klingeundbeil, the little mix series I've been doing with my brother @law-lorenz

It's been a blast making this at every year's end, but we feel like starting something new and leaving this project at a sound and round ten.

For the end I decided to go a little longer than usual, I hope you enjoy it. Lorenz's mix will follow tomorrow.
