Marlboro Sounds

“Distant Shores” is a dreamy, saxophone-drenched house track oozing with balearic atmosphere, subtle breaks, and smooth synth bass. The production is a collaboration between New York house veteran Kyle Louis and Working Rhythms Records boss D.D. Curry, now based in London. They originally met in Brooklyn when Louis moved into the apartment upstairs from Curry's and bonded over the records Curry could hear through his ceiling. The pair is joined by another longtime friend, UK-via-NYC producer/DJ Panooc, who’s lent their conservatory-trained jazz sax skills to perfectly compliment the vibe.

Louis recalls, “It started off with D.D. sending me some Rhodes, bass and Panooc’s sax parts. Within a few hours, I had a mostly fleshed out track - chopping up those samples, adding a little break beat, some chunky drums and a couple new synths. I wanted it to be funky, emotional and a bit aggressive all at the same time. The title comes from Devin and I now being on separate shores after sharing Brooklyn for so long - now Brooklyn and London.”

‘Curry’s House’ is a 2-hour dance music program on Voices At Night that features exciting sounds and voices from the underground dance music community around the world. This month, Quantreau stops by the House to fill in for D.D. Curry during the host’s absence. Quantreau is a Brooklyn-based DJ, producer, and co-founder of the up-and-coming dance label Fortune Signal.

Originally hailing from Denver, Colorado, Quantreau is an active member of NYC’s dance music underground scene. This 2-hour mix features his energetic, eclectic and sub-heavy vision for contemporary club music, including a sneak peak at tracks from the upcoming Fortune Signal v/a compilation, Visions.

Brooklyn house music veteran Kyle Louis returns to Working Rhythms with the lush 2-tracker ‘You’re So (Cool) / Move,’ his first solo release since 2023 that follows his recent collab single “Distant Shores” with D.D. Curry and Panooc. The A-side is a laid back but ultra funky vibe-setter, driven by a chugging synth bass line, fun slappy drums, and a cheeky vocal sample. On the flip is “Move” that features Kyle’s own shimmering, FX-laden piano hook over a classic jackin’ groove, a filter house-influenced roller that recalls sounds of the Crydamoure label.

Louis is no stranger to crafting crowd-inspiring tracks and irresistible edits, having cut his teeth as co-founder and resident of NYC’s now-defunct party Little Disco, an event series that featured top names in the scene and made waves in the city’s underground during the mid twenty-teens. With this release, the producer kicks off an exciting run of solo releases for 2025!

Eight In The Room is the latest moniker of electronic artist, Dorian Duvall.  His music has always thrived in flux, evolving with each new environment. Starting as Onuinu, he emerged from Portland with a sound that blurred the lines between dreamy synth pop, warped funk, and dancefloor abstraction. Onuinu's debut LP, Mirror Gazer, fused house, ambient, and hip-hop sensibilities into something hypnotic yet propulsive.

Dorian then shifted his moniker to become Mirror Gazer, and he released Ordeal Erasure under that name in 2020 through Fresh Selects. The album marked a departure from the vibrant synth-pop of Onuinu, embracing a darker, more introspective tone that blended electronic textures with rock influences. Duvall leaned into moodier, more atmospheric compositions, pushing his sound toward rawer, more experimental territory. This evolution reflected a broader creative restlessness, a drive to break form, rebuild, and progress.

After Ordeal Erasure, Dorian moving to New York, where he sharpened those instincts, immersing himself in the energy of the underground dance scene. The city’s clubs became a new kind of education, pushing their sound toward grittier, more percussive textures and high-pressure rhythms. Now, after relocating to Mexico, he steps into his next chapter: Eight In The Room (8ITR). Rooted in electronic, house, breakbeat, bass, and UK garage, 8ITR distills a decade of reinvention into something urgent, physical, and deeply immersive.

This summer, 8ITR debuts with a seven-track EP on Brooklyn’s Toucan Sounds, channeling past incarnations into a forward-facing, club-ready release. For Duvall, reinvention has never been about erasing the past, it’s about distilling what matters. And with 8ITR, the vision is clearer than ever.

8ITR’s debut EP on Toucan Sounds is a high-energy fusion of House, Breakbeat, Bass, and UK Garage, crafted for late-night drives and dance floor awakenings. Across seven tracks—Viva, Lovely, Imagine, Panda, Bought & Soul’d, Up & Up, and Fun—8ITR weaves raw emotion with forward-thinking production, delivering a sonic journey of movement, nostalgia, and reinvention. Rooted in underground club culture, this release marks the next evolution of Dorian Duvall’s sound.
