With previous releases on Delusions of Grandeur, Voyeurythm and more, UK producer Ben Sun delivers a gorgeous blend of deep textures that hearken back to the golden era of NY and Chicago with his Distant Messenger EP on Razor-N-Tape. On the A-side, Transmission has all the vibey goodness of an early Strictly Rhythm record, while Sable Sun scuba dives into Larry Heard territory with lush pad swells and squelching acid lines.

On the flip, the emotive motion of Tremors builds through hypnotic arpeggiated synths, a slow-rolling bassline and crystalline melodies, and the record finishes in proto-house territory with the Peech Boys era Larry Levan-inspired Red Light. This EP may wear its influences on its sleeve, but it looks (and sounds) classy as hell.

Subterranean Swing is an ambient jazz journey into the heart of the city after midnight. It's an exploration of the space between the hypnotic pulse of a deep house basement club and the smoky, introspective haze of a forgotten jazz lounge.

In France the original version of this track was a huuuuuuge success during the 80's in Night Clubs and Radio shows as well, originally recorded by Patrick Coutin in 1981 at the Château d'Hérouville studio... Patrick Coutin is explaining that "he likes to watch girls walking on the beach..." (translation for "j'aime regarder les filles qui marchent sur la plage...") The track is still played nowadays in parties...
I have taken the decision to do a Dub version of it, in adding lots of effects, overdubs, Keyboards, and a Drum track that could stay true to the hypnotic beat with my personal vision of it....

‘Shine (This Is It)’ is the first single from Soul Clap’s self-titled second album that features legendary vocalist Nona Hendryx. After Ray met Charles and Eli when all played at LA party institution A Club Called Rhonda this happened..!

Nona Hendryx is an original member of the trio Labelle who’s smash single “Lady Marmalade” is a timeless classic. Her solo singles “Transformation” and “Do What You Wanna Do” from the 80’s are equally prolific to her work as a back-up vocalist for a laundry list of legendary acts including Parliament-Funkadelic, Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel. 

There is magic contained in ‘Shine (This Is It)’ and the strength in Hendryx's vocal empowers our sprits and moves us on the dancefloor. Midnight Magic’s Morgan Wiley delivers an outstanding keyboard solo and fellow bandmate Jason Disu teams up with Kalí Rodríguez and No Regular Play’s Greg Paulus to form the Soul Clap horn section.

Taking the magical vocals, horns and keyboard solo from the original, Ray Mang gives it a latin house twist adding an elevating Rhodes motif, bass and battery. Presented here in three versions on 180gram vinyl.

Alice in the Jungle is a Miami-based creative who has been in the music industry for over 5 years. 
She is the founder of boutique online radio station, Empty Plate Radio, a platform that explores corners of underground electronic dance music. As well as empowering artists globally.

 She has established herself in the miami electronic scene by hosting events and supporting local groups, labels, and creatives alike.
