"Sinfonietta" is roughly based on material from the composer's "Piano Sonata No. 6" and "Passacaglia", two works originally conceived and composed as part of one multi-movement work for piano.

A WORLD UNFINISHED is modeled after the orchestral tone poems of Richard Strauss. The single-movement, continuously evolving composition is divided into two equal parts, each of which is comprised of two main sections, in total referencing truncated, highly compressed symphonic movements.

PART 2: Adagio Klezmer Rondo
While there is no specific “story” behind the music, there is an extra-musical philosophical theme: the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World). To Jews, humanity was given an incomplete, broken world; it is our obligation to do what we can to reduce suffering, hatred and despair.

I couldn't end 2019 without celebrating one of my most masterful arrangements of the year. Piemontesina is inspired by the Italian song "Piemontesina" made famous in Piedmont, Italy. This was originally written as a demo for a film set in that region, but now it's taken on a life of its own. Enjoy this orchestral work which tells a story of bliss, humor and mystery in a distant land, not too far away.
