Shibuya-kei was a varied and perverted form of J-pop known for its ability to, "...splice, sample, and document musical influences from the past to create a fun, bright, intentionally evocative melting pot of sounds, drawing from Yé-yé, Lounge, Bossa nova, Exotica, Jazz, Funk and Psychedelic Pop. Whilst developing in the early-to-mid 1990s, these were often combined with more recent electronic styles, incorporating House, Synthpop, Trip Hop and forms of Alternative Dance."
