Jose Rico _ Star dreams [Downbeat 013]

Downbeat lives up to its name and step by step, is slowly making its way.
The new release of the label from Madrid is signed by one of the label's honchos, Jose Rico.
Influenced by the US sound, he has achieved a unique and special sound. Jose's trajectory for more than a decade as a producer is impeccable. The list of labels where he has released is endless: Freebeat, Semantica, Eleve, Aesthetic Audio, Into the deep, Sound reflection, Future Reactions, Red Sonja, Off minor, Neroli, Chubby!, Ten lovers music to name a few... but above all Downbeat where he has left genuine jewels of slowed down house.

Now he returns with a release that is quite different from that "Yagoba Itzoiten" or his recent "Déjà Vu". The label begins a new stage, opening up to new sounds unexplored until now, as can be seen in tracks like "Astrolenguaje", "Future jazz" (with Specter and Anthonius) or "Star dreams" which gives name to the album as a declaration of intent. Downtempo, Nu jazz, broken beats and of course, House music, is what we can find in this instalment number 13.

For their second installment, the Chateau Chepere crew brings on board legendary producer Stephan Laubner under his STL moniker, with four time warping pieces of music. With his distinctive and intricate sonic palette, Laubner extracts from his hardware different musical colors and shapes to produce singular atmospheres. Opening up the EP is Fly Fly, an epic 11 min minimal house trip full of tension and excitement, followed by Eargrind, an eerie, laid back Detroit leaning ballad. On the flip is Light Up, a spaced out, playful and bittersweet number that will revitalize any hazy after-hours dancefloor. Closing up the EP is Unlike Dislike, a quirky, jacking and mischievous techno workout for the packed club. This diverse ep will pull the listeners and dancers into Laubner's multifaceted, low key but captivating universe.

In 2016, Caldera started the project Riviera Club and since 2014 has been releasing music on various labels such as Noorden, WNCL, Sonic Moire, Bokhari Records to name a few. Caldera is not the only synonym of a producer originally from the Ruhrpott, who is at home in the UK. his mix for Freude am Tanzen is as varied as his work as music producer and we are very happy that he is represented on the new vinyl compilation project as well as in our podcast series.

First of our Klub Dramatik Podcast Series: Curtis 0101.  

Former member of Antwerp’s most respected duo Flatfish pulls it off so smooth with dance floor hitters ranging from Derrick Carter acid, early Move D electro and new gems from Belgian artist Kennedy.  

Curtis’ story:  

Started out as FlatFish back in 2008 with good friend FBQ. Nicolas quickly caught the disease of vinyl and love for underground house music. In 2016 they decided to go there own way and Nicolas created concepts like Warm, How I Work, Another One Bites The Booty and Drrrip Radio where he shows up as host or resident deejay under the moniker Curtis.

Curtis will perform 'By Night' from 03:00-06:00.
