Berlin's Micropacer makes his return to Exploited Club - following releases on Kendal's Ritmo Fatale, Johannes Albert's Frank Music and Cormac's Polari with 3 slices of pure, unadulterated joy. 

'Splash' kicks off, oozing with sass as an irresistible Italo bass struts along with a square edged heel. Rousing strings swell as a giddy tension bubbles towards a hairs-on-the-neck breakdown that pops to rapturous effect. Synths sparkle, while chopped vocals adorn the melody. All the while that bass maintains its swagger until the end. 

'Foreign Affairs' follows up with more early 80s flair. Here, a fervid piano riff takes the limelight as it shifts through heartstring chords, rubbing sweaty shoulders with stabs and a vocoder. Filters dip the piano as it sinks towards another jubilant drop. 

'Schöne Zeit' closes things up with more bright, spicy drums. The Disco kit kicks in all the right places, propelling another gorgeous tapestry of sound built from swirling tones and sunbeam stabs. Another breakdown unfolds with pure peak-time energy, giving way to flurry of serotonin rounding off a pack of reliable, retro bangers aimed directly under the disco ball.

Well, the rising & shining Swedish powerhouse Club Mackan did it... again! The second parcel of its “A Retro Futuristic Collage” series brought together seventeen talented producers and delivered one of the best VAs of the year so far. On board, old & new faces from the Indie Dance realm such as Marcus Christiansen, the label Prime Minister himself, Mundo D, Osccurate, Pianopoli, Karl Draum, TDWS, SLTBQ, Elysian Underground, Jo Kazan, Dog.ma, Beni Geier, and Miss Zagato, just to name a few, came up with some proper retro-cosmic-infused material for the occasion. 

The track premiered here marks USA-based TDWS’s very first appearance on Mackan. With previous works issued on Girlfriend Records and Sinchi, the promising American virtuoso aims the peak time with his frenzied fast-paced and upbeat themes. His 136-BPM “Tear”, for instance, presents itself dressed to impress with an imposing attitude tailored to please even the most hardcore fans of Trance out there. Frolic synth layers and progressive leads set the tone and result in one of the finest pieces of the batch.

After featuring on our recent twentieth-anniversary compilation, we are delighted to welcome back Mexican DJ, audio sculptor and Controlla label head-honcho Pvlomo to Darkroom Dubs, who guides us through a rich, sonic escapade deep into his metaphysical realm of frequency vibration.

A commanding kick drum and a luscious, pulsating bass tone lay the foundations for Infraworld - a voyage through a multiverse of celestial soundscapes. A relentless vortex of hypnotising synths surge and recede, propelling you through a prismatic wormhole rich with electronic sounds and textures, leaving you captivated and spellbound.

Fellow Mexican and rising electronic music star Jorge Melgar, aka Badwolf, is on remix duties for Ritmo Son, with an atmospheric reinterpretation of the original. A deep pounding kick and dense resonances keep you focused through a murky landscape, eventually unveiling a clearing awash with shimmering, reverberant voices. Then, intoxicating voices evoke the sensation that you are effortlessly floating on a bottomless silvery lake before they suddenly dissipate and plunge you back into the depths of the darkness.

The same hypnotic and disorienting voices orbit around your head in the original mix of Ritmo Son, engulfing you in auditory disarray. This time, glitchy, crunchy, slightly off-kilter percussion provides the only sound to anchor yourself amidst the whirlwind of whispers. A precise and forceful bass and a gritty, gravelly acid line give the track a raw, unbridled power, perfect for late-night action on a smoky dancefloor bathed only in strobe lights.

Melodies linger like ghosts, speaking the language of the lost, Berlin’s newborn baby Ghosting Corporation hails from unhealthy breakups and unanswered text messages, with tunes made for places where loud sound systems and lonely spirits meet. The night is there to evade those negative feelings of emptiness and exchange them for a brief moment of body movement.

GC first reference, titled “Enter the Wild” is stuffed with elements brought together to create a mix of percussion, groove and excitement, an after midnight fiesta combining Anastasia Zems’s massive vocal talent with what label’s creator, Mike Sacchetti had envisioned probably influenced by a tribal dance he saw in a movie and a long bike ride home. Both stepped out a bit from their living room couch to deliver something fresh to the sound of Indie Dance. And as if it wasn’t confusing enough to your expectations, two special guests came to spend the evening at the remix department: the french based Moroccan rooted artist Zaatar widens the sound spectrum while spitting out cosmic dust with a slow builder re-interpretation piece of “The World’s a Dream”, ultimately to hand it over to Berlin’s established producer Radial Gaze to properly fuel the rocket with an acid energised version just tailored for the peak time enthusiasts.

PREMIERE: Anastasia Zems & Mike Sacchetti - The World's A Dream (Zaatar Remix)

He's back. After a break that felt like an eternity, Cuthead has finally awoken from his creative beauty sleep to check up on his home base, Uncanny Valley, with his new album, THE DETOUR. 

The album is spread over four parts to avoid overexciting everyone's attention span. And he's not coming back as a cheapskate since the album is full of gifts that true Cuthead fans desire. In other words, he does what he does best: Blasting out slick tracks that oscillate between laid-back underground hip-hop, sampling heavy house and vintage acid, but with enough surprises along the way. The tracks were created over the last few years, including some jams from his live set that he made while travelling or in a hotel.

As soon as the typical cosy, warm chords kick in during the INTRO of The Detour Part 1, you immediately feel at home again in Cuthead's world, where it's always Saturday afternoon, and laid-back jams drip out of the speakers (at least on two of the four parts). On top of that, Chester Watson from St. Louis (one of Cuthead's absolute favourite rappers) provided a feature. With his distinctive voice and dreamy flow, Chester explains in not one but two versions of PROCEED how to carry on and stay relaxed despite adverse circumstances. On the other hand, TOUR DE FRANCE is a trapstrumental for the masses in which a hi-that thunderstorm is intertwined with a wind sample that constantly twists around itself.

The second in Cuthead's tetralogy is what we can undoubtedly call a house monster. It starts with a track named after one of Cuthead's special skills: MPC JAM. With its filter attacks and unmistakable drops, the track builds on Cuthead's great house floor fillers, leaving no ass standing still. SUNDAY 5 PM enters the floor as a bird of paradise with room-filling disco strings before SPACED OUT follows with Theo Parrish-like grooves. MIDNIGHT ROUTE closes The Detour Part 2 with broken beats and an unusual but irresistible electronic bassline.

The opener of the third part once again praises the old promise of the House Nation, not without ZUBU being refined with the very own Cuthead spin, which puts the track on a techno floor as well. POWER ACID lives up to its name and comes across as a classic warehouse acid screw that takes every rave to the edge. Understatement is also not required. PARTY LIKE IT'S 99. After all, every Saturday afternoon is followed by a Saturday night a piano house bomb with a little ounce of acid always goes down well on such an occasion

The final chapter of THE DETOUR opens promisingly and in typical Cuthead style with the aptly titled BONKERS and the kind of weirder head-nodding beat that only the Dresdenresident can squeeze out of his samples. In LISOLEIL, Malone the Chemist drops his lines over what feels like an aquatic jazz foundation. Cuthead spotted the Canadian rapper when he posted a freestyle under a tweet from Flying Lotus. After that, the snares are turned up again at the FOXY FOXY sample fest. OUTRO is almost epic by Cuthead standards and could easily be the soundtrack to a modern Giallo film. The album is accompanied by beautiful animations created in collaboration between illustrator Robert Deutsch and animator Tobias Kramer.
