Out of Tulum, km.4.5 is birthed. Branching out from the Papaya Playa Project umbrella, its curators have created an extremely special home for electronic music idols and up-and-coming artists alike.

Dorisburg (Boss Musik/Aniara) opens the four-tracker with an introspective and low-mid heavy, percussive, syncopated and obscenely-swung masterclass of his signature and inimitable sound palate that we have all come to know and love over the years so well.

Electronic music stalwart Sebastian Mullaert (Circle of Live/Minilogue) appropriately follows suit with incomprehensible and inimitable levels of depth on his appropriately titled track 'No Menace'. 4x4 kicks lull you into a continuous state of hypnotism that he has come to master over the decades of production he is so well known for. Essential.

Wareika rolls through with polyrhythmic lines of improvised funk and drum-machine jams that draw from Detroit and Berlin - this is second to none.

Some friends came and went, others stuck around for a lifetime. Studying the lost or fragmented relationships along the way helped them to understand what worked and what didn't. And analysing those that had stood the test of time brought happiness and fulfillment. It all came down to nurturing those that stuck by you, those that gave back to you as much as you gave them — that's when you know you've found your tribe.

A new label has been birthed in Tulum, brought to us by the team behind the Papaya Playa Project. Kilometro 4.5 continues the crews mission to create a home for their electronic music idols, both stalwarts and emerging, and so their first outing comes in the form of a VA gathering pioneering producers from around the world. The singular productions come from Boss Musik's Dorisburg, Circle of Live member Sebastian Mullaert, Wareika and our pick from Compost Records' Kalabrese, who delivers a rolling analogue groove.

Emerging out of the jungle mists are the swirling sounds of Snad on the Tulum based imprint Kilometro4.5. The Berlin based artist has had prior releases on the likes of Kimochi Sound, Courtesy of Sound, Smallville and more through a variety of sounds. Our focus for today is of the ambient persuasion as label, and Snad state:

Kilòmetro 4.5 takes you into danceable ambient sounds through a dreamy album produced by Snad. Loop DreamZz is an ethereal representation of nostalgic soundscapes. It wraps you in a strange yet familiar sense of paradise at twilight, be it before dawn or post-sunset. Faint birdsong, gentle waves, and the bittersweet tiredness when you’re one of the last on the sandy dancefloor, yet perpetually craving to keep the dream looping.

“I originally wrote Loop DreamZz in Berlin after my first visit to Papaya Playa Project. Fast forward to 2021, and Km4.5 asked me if I would be interested in writing an ambient-ish album. I was doing an exercise in writing an album a month, so I was naturally into the idea. The resulting album was written with my machines in the dark of the night over a week and a half in Malvern, Pennsylvania. I drew influence from Jan Jelinek, Gigi Masin, Kimochi Sound, Meitei, my friends, and my lush suburban environment.” - Snad
