Consistently solid electronic duo Plant Plants live in a sonic world of their own. Unmistakably talented with an uprooting live show, Howard Whatley and Stuart Francis have just dropped their hypnotic 'Dust Me Down EP' via London label This Is Music and exclusively for i-D, have jumped deep into downtime with their super slow Slumber Session. Dream on.

"I dreamt I was the Captain aboard an oil tanker sailing across the Pacific Ocean towards Skull Island to capture King Kong. The first mate was actor Christopher Lee, who was dressed as Rasputin (from the1966 film Rasputin, The Mad Monk) although he was not in character. Also aboard was Oliver Reed (another famous 60's & 70's actor) who had brought a ridiculous amount of early nineties Italian piano house records, which he would mix like DJ Screw on 33rpm while we all sipped sizzurp on the bridge. A month into the journey we discovered a stowaway aboard - a small shaved baboon dressed as a human boy, named Morgan. As the weeks passed I grew to love Morgan like a family member, and I was devastated when we had to throw him overboard as a result of his behavior. When we got to Skull Island the natives challenged us to a 3 on 3 basketball game and Christopher Lee dunked in our winning point. We never found King Kong."

Timing is everything. My man GoldLink and I have been trying to find the right setting to sit down and chop it up. After months of bouncing back and forth we finally connected and made this session happen. GoldLink to me is one of my favorite emerging artists. I don't really need to give him an introduction. But just know that he has Rick Rubin on his side, Soulection on his side, and every A&R/label head on him. It's refreshing to connect with an artist who gets our sound and is at the forefront of this future beat sound/forward thinking community. GoldLink said that he and Soulection will run music in 2015 and beyond. Hear why.

Born Maya Medvešek, Nightwave first started cropping up on our radar back at the end of the '00s, first with a series of dubs (and FACT comments!) under her past name 8Bitch, then a series of EPs on the Seed (Equinox, Astarte) and Slit Jockey (G41) labels.

After changing her name to Nightwave, she returned with a succession of releases on Fortified Audio, Unknown to the Unknown and more. Nightwave's always been open about her love of hard, fast dance music - Underground Resistance, Funk, Deeon, Mills and the rest of the gods - but it's over the latter half of her discography where she's really let that come to the forefront. Her recent releases, mostly self-released through her Heka Trax label, have been her best to date, regularly hitting the 140-150bpm zone and featuring collabs with DJ Deeon and TT the Artist. Listen to 'Rave Hard' or 'Fire Hoes' and tell us that's not someone firmly in the midst of a hot streak.

It's no surprise, then, that Nightwave's FACT mix - described as "the kind of stuff we play at my club night Nightrave and what my typical set sounds like I guess", is a ridiculous amount of fun, hurtling through old and new music at some rate of knots. Bangalter's mixed into MMM into Deeon. Rustie into Godfather into Jammin Gerald. Maribor into DJ Milktray into Finn. It features Mad Mike, UR and Plastikman's 'Spastik' within the first four tracks, but just at the moment where you think you might need to calm down, it throws you 'Pony'. Oh, and there's an absolute ton of Nightwave's own material too.

Strap in. And if you don't like snare rolls, look away now.

This is the track I made for them using all of the sounds they recorded. I decided to keep it minimal and record my own vocals. Now we’re fully alive and kicking in 2015 we’ve got another treat lined up for you for our second Truancy Volume of the year. If you’ve been lucky enough to catch Freerotation resident and UntilMyHeartStops label co-head Leif Knowles DJ before you’ll know all about his ability to craft an atmosphere with his sets. If you haven't, not to worry, as there's plenty of Leif to dig into. His label UntilMyHeartStops, which he runs with Joe Ellis, has had a stellar few years housing the likes of Joey Anderson, Freerotation co-founder Steevio and Truancy Volume 65 creator October. Leif's guest slot alongside Joe Ellis on Ben UFO's Rinse FM show was named as one of the best mixes of the year by Resident Advisor and having him on board is a definite cause for excitement for us.

In terms of releases, Leif's debut LP Dinas Oleu on Fear of Flying was one of the finest albums of 2013, coming a solid decade after he started releasing music. With it we were offered his vision of just how luscious and personal deep house can be. As his multitude of EPs and singles he's released since 2003 prove, most recently his Nour & Light EP on Sudden Drop, Leif's sound is as comfortable on headphones as it is on a system. It was a no-brainer for us, then, to bring him in to offer up the 109th edition in our mix series. We're extremely excited to share this Truancy Volume as Leif has given us a delightfully varied and ascending mix as the perfect antidote to the chilly weather. This is one you'll keep coming back to.

"The tracks I’ve chosen for this Slumber mix are a sonically diverse array of sounds from flau’s catalogue over the past 6 years incl. folktronic, classical, avant-garde, dream pop, microsounds, audio collages and complex beat experiments. Featuring an international cast of artists, I wanted to represent a vast repertoire of work, but still retain the soothing and subtle sound aesthetic that has become synonymous with the label’s musical output. I’ve just returned to Japan from touring Europe and was a little absent-minded when creating the mix due to jetlag. Some people say that sunlight, water, medication, coffee and changing your body temperature can help you beat jetlag. For me it’s about relaxing, and there’s no better way to relax then by listening to music. In a way, this mix is my way of beating jetlag. It’s the perfect mix to unwind to. So slip on your headphones, sit back and wonder off to the ethereal sounds of everblooming cherry blossoms."
