In the wake of their recent Moments EP, out now on Sony Australia, Sydney-based duo Cosmo's Midnight have put together this mix for us, filled with bleeding-edge club music and some pretty out-there takes on 2015's biggest hitters. It's colourful, fun and not without its share of deeper moments for the heads. It's basically the perfect antidote to everything January stands for: misery, ravaged bank balances, and miserable weather. So, now that you've just about recovered from NYE, break out the cheap booze and enjoy.

hashtag irl is an ode to today. It is a reflection of the internet frenzy which has taken over our lives, and which has imprisoned us in a virtual reality, where we each justify our existence through the approval of others. How many likes? How many followers? Never enough, so it seems. 

The constant desire to increase our online status drives us only deeper into an isolated world of narcissism, where our thoughts are watered down to a common denominator of hashtags, selfies and internet-speak acronyms. We don't really care about each other, we only care about how much we 'like' each other. The anti-social reality of 'social media' is all too ironic.

The repetitive, robotic and melancholy vocals of hashtag irl symbolize the relentlessness with which the internet now dictates our lives. They also pay homage to Kraftwerk's Computer Love - the original song about the rise of computers in modern society, released back in 1981. 'Computer love. Another lonely night. I don't know what to do.' It seems not much has changed. 'Hashtag alone. Hashtag follow me. Hashtag please follow me.'

Solé Fixtape Vol. 45 | Bag Raiders

Spending hours, days, months, etc., crafting a collage of samples into a cohesive piece of new music is awesome art, and one Shawn Wasabi (@sssshawnnnn) is quickly becoming a master at. Aside from creating new melodic themes from found fragments of hundreds of different songs, he also performs and records each work live. You may have seen one of Shawn’s many multi-million breaking Youtube videos, but not many know these are each performed in one take. The kid’s a legend, and he’s one of the first to be pushing a cute, bubbly and hyper sound to a bigger audience in the states. We’re stoked to be sharing Shawn’s NEST HQ MiniMix with y’all today.
