Floating Dream

Originally wrote this on lap steel a couple of months ago but have been playing on the mighty stratocaster of late using tapping technique, merging middle eastern with western classical and Spanish motifs along with a bit o' Celtic in there for good measure near the end. I hear yet another nod to Rodrigo at one point and also sometimes when i play this, which has become my daily meditation of late, i add a bit of frippishness in there and some ambient loops. This is but one version, the latest one.

Just recorded this this morning, I was going to call it "Love you with all my Heart" and then decided that was, as this point, a bit cliche and also not entirely accurate to the way i feel about love at this point, having recently had my heart shattered by a forest nymph with a mossy crown. She could only give me half of her heart, never all as i wanted. She kept quite a bit in reserve for herself, her kids, and her other lovers sadly. She also lied "through her teeth", mainly but not exclusively by omission, about the other lovers and pretty much made three years of my life a alternating combination of blissful and almost unbearably painful.

Working on a new piece called "Phases of the Moon" this is the full phase shimmering and bright in the winter night. Apart from some spacey synth sounds at the beginning, this is all stratocaster guitar using delay, tapping technique and whammy bar.

One track of solo stratocaster guitar with a special delay setup, top secret which allows me to play bass notes and some fairly sophisticated violin like leads on top all at the same time. I can do this live and i'm pretty stoked to do so when next i gig. This is part of "The Phases of the Moon series" and is called "Dancing Moon". The violin type sounds which echo the themes are an effect i call "insect orchestra". All of this is happening in real time from a single guitar by the way.

having fun with recording again this morning. Decided to make a new version of portraits of O, the original of which was recorded in slightly sharp of F#, stupidly, but that was my vibration at the time i guess. So i took the loop, pitch shifted it to E and took a stab at doing to melody using my new "phases of the moon" sound. It went pretty well and i'll likely post it later this morning, i just bounced the whole 40 minutes or so of phases of the moon, the latest version in key of E. I have it in several keys at this point and will remix those together in hopefully interesting and coherent ways later on. I've got it to the point in my consiousness so that i can play it live now with some amount of confidence and precision. Well precision is the wrong word perhaps because, as with all of my music, the actual structure and vibe of it can change a bit with my moods, what effects i use on this version or that. It works just clean also and that's how i know it's a strong and memorable bass line and melody.  I also added a tampura loop which swells up mid composition and swells slowly down again :) listening back to it as i type. There are some mistakes, a few bad notes, as usual in a rough recording, not edited or mastered because frankly i get bored editing, i just want to play, but i like the vibe at the end especially.
