I wrote this song for a friend who was watching her aunt pass slowly with cancer surgery-related complications.  There was nothing I do to ease her pain and was thinking about her as I watched the hay in the fields sway in the wind.  It was such a peaceful moment, and I thought about how peaceful it would be to be sitting on a bench in Heaven, just waiting for the rest of the family to join me.

I was quite sick in 2013; 9 weeks in hospital, almost a year recovery from ulcerative colitis resulting in an ileostomy.  I learned a few things in the hospital; love is king, health is everything and money and things mean nothing.  And puppies are awesome.

This is a very meaningful hymn to me; it was the first thing I sang in public after being sick and recovering for 11 months.

I Surrender All

I wrote this for a very good friend who was experiencing her aunt's slow passing as a result of complications from cancer surgery.  As much as I wanted, there was really nothing I could do or say to help ease her pain.  I was sitting at my piano one day, watching the hay sway in the fields with the wind, and I felt peace.  I knew that's what I wanted for my friend and pictured her aunt sitting on a bench in Heaven, watching her nieces and just waiting until more folks would come and sit beside her.

A song about my struggle with alcohol, culminating on the day I was stopped for impaired driving and landed in jail.  It was the worst/best day of my life.  I'm glad to report I'm still standing sober today, and God willing, I will be tomorrow.

This song was sung at my parents' wedding in 1960!
