Once again, I've found this to be a very satisfying and inspiring challenge.

Pipe Dreams was written for the organ in St. Peter’s Köln, which has two sets of pipes at opposite ends of the church. Each rank has separate sounds and stops that can combine to create microtonal intervals. Pipe Dreams is a structured improvisation, exploring antiphony and the specific sounds of that organ, extra-musical as well as musical. The tempos and exact notation are left open; the notation is just a musical skeleton for the actual notes played. Ornamentation occurs when the sound warrants it: i.e., to not only obtain musical results, but to make extra-musical sounds occur. The weather affected the sound and action of this organ, changing every day, so realization changed daily. When I started making Scratch, I realized that other rhythms, basses, chords and other tracks could have any sound.
 And the randomness takes the song outside the framework of the music. I got on the limousine bus in my pajamas and slipped through the boarding gate at the airport.
 "That's how I feel." Wearing your pajamas is like waking up in the morning and declaring that you haven't showered or brushed your teeth. It's annoying. 
 There are a lot of people who are interested.
"My scratch music is an imitation of self-righteousness." maybe!

Since 2016, One Instrument releases annual compilations of compositions created by different artists. “Year 2022” is the 7th annual Various Artists release.
This yearly celebration is a good moment to remember the concept and background of the label and how it started.

In 2016, Grand River aka Aimée Portioli kicked off One Instrument the record label where she releases sound experiments from different artists composing pieces by using only one instrument, challenging and limiting each of the artists in producing a composition by using only this one instrument of their choice.

She shares that One Instrument started as a need for herself. She had a Korg MS-20 (the 1978 version) in her studio which she borrowed from a friend for quite a while. At the same time, she was finding herself switching too quickly from one instrument to another while composing. That’s when she decided to stick with one instrument for a whole composition and choose the MS-20 to do that. For the musician, it was extremely helpful to put some limits on the composition process and at the same time discovering that the instruments itself deserve to be explored and studied with more time and patience.

Besides the yearly compilations the label has released 16 physical and digital releases among which we can find the albums of Donato Dozzy, Felicity Mangan, Rezo Glonti, Daniele Di Gregorio, Bandhagens Musikförening, Darwin Grosse, Neel and many others.

"Magnet Blues" presents Zhu Wenbo and Zhu Songjie’s unique and utterly bizarre take on American blues, as if filtered through layered variations of darkness. Throughout the recording, we hear barely audible vocals, minimalist, smart, and subtle guitar work, and the folkish atmosphere of what sounds like distant train activity and dying radios. Instrumentation is notable here: Songjie uses the peculiar Casio EG-5 electric guitar, with a built-in cassette deck, while also playing harmonica. Wenbo plays a Fisher-Price toy cassette player, sings, and also plays harmonica. Throughout bursts of noise and rustling midrange timbres, Zhu and Zhu navigate an understated, focused, and dreamlike realm of song and texture.
