Notes:

this work takes its name from the pickled ginger served with sashimi. particularly inspirational is the food’s dynamic taste profile, transversing sweetness, tang, sourness, and possession of a textural character which is both crisp and malleable.   

gari is a loosely structured improvisation to be performed by any number of laptop musicians. performers may also choose to include improvisors of acoustic or electronic instruments to interact with the electroacoustic textures.

KNEE PLAY is a duo formed by Justin West and Sam Ferris-Morris as a musical outgrowth of their interactive sound and light installations as members of Intermedio. Knee Play is an outlet for Sam and Justin to explore their interests in collaborative and experimental musical performances and compositions. They make music through experiments with repurposed slide projectors, color tracking webcams, swinging pendulums, light sensors, computers, and any other contraptions that can be made to make sound.
