Riva Starr - Raw Edits EP Vol 2

The always unpredictable and wildly creative Riva Starr returns to Saved Records for the second installment of his Raw Edits EP. Once again delving into an eclectic soundscape that references a plethora of genres, styles and tempos, Riva highlights why is the master of the edit yet again.

First up, Riva settles into addictive dubby atmospheres whilst splicing together the gospel vocals of Roland Clark’s ‘President House’ with the energetic groove of Sante Sansone’s ‘Groove Vibration.’ Thick swabs of bass pulsate between jackin’ beats which build and build throughout the track, mirroring the escalation of the impassioned vocals that bellow out over the top.

Setting off to work on Alex Under’s ‘Hacer La Compra’ Riva gives a demonstration on the workings of nailing a subtle edit.  Staying true to the original, he keeps things relatively stripped back to begin with, allowing jangling synths to flutter over fluid bass and quick percussion. That sense of swinging funk is then opened up by brilliant use of distorted FX, woozing keys and syncopating electronics.

With his edit of Gene Farris’ ‘Welcome To Chicago’ and Ron Costa’s remix of Miguel Bastida’s ‘Ketanima’ Rivaa digs into deep, dubby textures reminiscent of the heyday of Chicago house. Built around warm pads, melodic synths and surges of deep bass, the track has a laidback vibe but powered by a distinctly underground momentum.

The Audiojack duo team up with cohort Kevin Knapp to release their heavy club weapon ‘Vibrate’ on Hot Creations. Berlin based Re.You and former Minus mainstay and Fun Records founder Barem take the reins for remix duty.

Making his first appearance on the label with this remix, Re.You’s other releases can be found on Cocoon, Mobilee and Souvenir alongside second remixer Barem, a talented producer from Argentina. Texas-bred, San Francisco-schooled and Berlin based producer Kevin Knapp is no stranger to the Hot Creations imprint, having released his successful two track ‘The Heft EP’ earlier this year. Originally from Leeds, and now based in Ibiza, Audiojack are set to celebrate a decade of music-making with exciting new releases forthcoming on the likes of Crosstown Rebels, 2020 Vision, Tsuba and their own label Gruuv.

Madrid based DJ and producer Dennis Cruz delivers two dance floor focussed house cuts on Solid Grooves this October.

A mainstay in the house and techno community, Dennis Cruz has consistently delivered high quality material on Stereo Productions, Snatch! and Suara to name but a few, garnering support from the likes of Marco Carola, Jamie Jones and Nic Fanciulli. This reputation has earned him a number of awards, including winning Best Producer in this year's DJ Awards, not to mention nominations for Best Spanish Artist, Best Producer and Best DJ from Vicious in 2016. Dennis Cruz' success in the industry continues this October with a busy touring schedule, featuring multiple performances at this year's ADE, as well as his return to Solid Grooves Records with 'Rock & Roll EP'.

'Rock & Roll' opens the release with a rumbling low end and grooved drum loops, allowing exciting snare rolls to build towards an inspiring vocal and hypnotic mid-range motifs before 'Get Ready' uses a vocal with more musicality which interacts the melodic bass hook, rising synth rhythms and shimmering hi hats to close out the release smoothly.
