Our next guest is Vanja Rakic. Born and raised in Banjaluka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, his diploma says Master’s Degree in industrial design, however, lately you will find him more in the roles of a graphic designer, visual artist, DJ. Spending his formative years in Belgrade and Milan, now living in Amsterdam, his interest in music grew exponentially, being shaped by a mixed bag of experiences gathered throughout space and time. For the last 3 years, Vanja has also been a part of the Garage Noord family. As for the music, Vanja’s friend once described it by saying ‘it is a trip deep inside the belly of the beast.’

He has been spinning records like a maniac, writing the best “verses”about the music that he digs and hell yeah... he is an amazing selector! The mix is 87-92 UK electro, Latin freestyle, Belgian new beat and early NYC/Euro techno/Proto Goa T sound which he truly loves and kinda follows on from a volume of mixtapes for Reel Torque. Chirpcast to end the year is by La Serpiente - a side project by Rotterdam based italian sonic explorer, producer and live performer Marco Segato. He's the co-founder of Rete Neurale Milano E.S.T. and Empty Signal Transmission series curator.
During the last years he released his music under different monikers (La Serpiente, MS, Narvalos) on labels such as XCPT Music, Random Numbers, Communion Records, Dionysian Mysteries, Vastechoses etc. as well as on many solidarity compilations. His most recent release is cassette on Sons Of Traders Records 'DHIKR' as NARVALOS, a duo project with Alessio Costantino (aka Askmeaboutdogs).
Marco takes us on a druggy exotic trip throughout new and old tracks in an eclectic manner, mixing in quite a few of his own creations. Lose your skin!

Birdcast 031: La Serpiente

For the final Phase Group Mix of 2022 we invite Loma Doom from Amsterdam to the series. 

Loma Doom - real name Femke Dekker - lives in Amsterdam where she's a vital member of the music scene, a seasoned digger and radio host as well as a curator and educator of contemporary art. Her dedication to radio is quite amazing, holding residencies on Radio Tempo Nao Para, Echobox Radio and Stranded FM as well as Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, an online radio station dedicated to art.

For her Phase Group Mix she has gifted us with an expertly composed deep listening experience. One hour of shamanic trance moving through dark droning soundscapes, tribal percussion and ancient voices chanting echoing incantations, recorded live at the Radio Tempo Nao Para studios in Amsterdam. As a real party lover, Anna is organizing parties in Paris (in the past with Bruits de la Passion, now with Nausicaa and others projects) and also playing sometimes under the name of Mykonos. 

As a DJ, Mykonos plays high dancing music. To follow her rhythm is an automatic sweat bath. With her punchy sounds of all genres, she charms and hypnotizes the crowd until dizziness for a direct come-back from death. 

For her radio shows, she can also do more melodic and immersive curation.

Off The Record this month takes a dive into the mind of Chicago artist and musician Beau Wanzer. 
Wanzer is commonly known for records on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. imprint as well as working with labels like Brew, L.A. Club Resource, iDEAL, Natural Sciences, and Nation. His in touch ear with industrial, electro and experimental music has seen him work alongside the likes Traxx and Steve Summers as the excellent Mutant Beat Dance, Dan Jugle as the head banging Juzer and more recently De-Bons-en-Pierre with Maoupa Mazzocchetti. 
For this mix Wanzer goes no holds bared into the world of tape culture with noisey and hissing electro and synth tunes as well as some chuggy industrial moments. We had a quick chat with Beau about the mix and what he has coming up!

Kiernan Laveaux comes in here, with her exciting take on what we could call ‘making full use of our mixing gear’. Keeping the spirit alive of Ron Hardy in the few interviews she did, it really makes sense in regards of the mutual playfulness in the art of DJing. 
The character of this mix bright and weird, something that gains feelings of hope and liberation. A trip that pulsates and stretches with loopy looping, that makes it breath & constrict at times. Kiernan guides us so smooth and kindly through many different cosmic passages. Wavy landscapes without losing any of warmth or euphoria.
Kiernan is from Cleveland, an affiliate of the T4T LUV NRG label & a part of Sweet Abyss - where this mix was recorded live, amidst various gay psychedelic vibes. Thanks Kiernan!

Officium is a multi-instrumentalist, knee-deep in the forward pushing underground scene of France. Navigating the Wreckers Ov Civilization radio serie at Lyl Radio. 
Last year, he released the amazing album ‘lazybones’ at Teenage Menopause Records, from Paris.
This story is taking us from Cindy Lee to Coil and helen island to Special Guest DJ, while Boris is playing alongside Missy Elliott.

Somewhere Press is a Glasgow-based record label that embodies the emotive, narrative-led spaces in sound work, uplifting outsider voices and queering notions of experimental music and print. 

This mix explores the discrepant sounds of dream states.
Ethereal choral vocals are entangled with distorted and disturbed voices and a drifting psychedelic ambience is broken apart by rumbling atmospheres of industrial.
As layers break apart, raw and resonant drones float beneath the surface; an opiated, eternal delirium.

A pleasure to hear this mix by La Serpiente (Marco Segato). We’ve been in touch years back when I was booking the first Zaliva-D European tour.  Marco brought Zaliva-D to the, now permanently closed, Macao in Milano.  His journey in life brought him recently to Amsterdam. 

Marco Segato is a sonic explorer, producer and live performer currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He's the co-founder of Rete Neurale Milano E.S.T. - an event born in the infamous Milanese multi-cultural space Macao - and curator of the mix series Empty Signal Transmission. He has been a Red Bull Music Academy alumnus in 2016 in Montréal (Canada) and graduated in Audio Production at SAE Institute Milan in 2017. During the last years Marco released his music under four different monikers: La Serpiente, MS, Narvalos (with Alessio Costantino) & eoobe (with Elina Tapio). Across these projects his sound maintains a sense of mysticism brewing with eerie tension, influenced and incorporating sounds of broken beats, post-industrial experimentations, and ritualistic elements to conjure psychic immersion. He produces and performs live sets with a combination of analogue and digital hardware, with a sonic outcome that is always saturating the mind with extra-musical ideas.
