Midnight Magic’s perennial disco anthem “Beam Me Up” announced itself as an instant classic from the moment of its release in 2010, and at long last the fellow Brooklynites joined us for a 10-year-anniversary package (minus one lost year) that once again establishes the timeless quality of the song with a fresh and versatile package of new remixes.

Norwegian space-disco don Prins Thomas delivers a sprawling and elegant mix, grounding melodic and psychedelic elements over a bumping percussive disco rhythm treatment, stretching out over 8 minutes of blissful breakdowns, delays and driving bass lines. Kim Ann Foxman takes the song to a darker and dubbier place with her “Beam Me To The Basement Mix,” layering samples of singer Tiffany Roth’s vocal and insistent acid synths over a heavy and pulsing low end. Each Other, a new project by Max Pask and NYC club royalty Justin Strauss, crafts an extended peak-time stormer of a mix, with churning analog drum and synth production that is somehow ravey, New-Wavey and lush all at once.

These three mixes truly capture an entire club night in one record, each a beautifully unique interpretation that showcases the inimitable talent and creativity of the remixers, and is also a testament to the enduring perfection of the original. PREMIERE: AFAMoo - The Art Of Jazz [theBasementDiscos]

@sofa-talk is known for his wide ranging tastes that spans house, funk, neo-soul, jazz, broken beat and downtempo. He’s the founder of Cognitiva Records and has a monthly residency on the ever-growing Universal Rhythms. His sounds can be found on Banoffee Pies Records, Yam, Ini Movement, Tusk Wax, Broken District, Omena, and Anma. Up and coming Italo talent @xlregular hails from Rome, and operates with the dancer firmly in mind. He’s been making a name for himself by skilfully mixing and cleverly blending a myriad of elements of jazz, hip hop, and jungle, all squeezed into broken beat. Together Piero Paolinelli and Alessandro Giacchi have released previously on Omena, ANMA, Cognitiva, INI Movement, Nómada and Monologues.

On the ‘Afro Quarters EP’ Sofatalk & XL Regular cook up a collection of loungey deep house and intricate broken beat, laced with the live instrumentation, the result being this wonderfully jazzy EP. It is comprised of four electronic jazz-funk infused house tracks which make for a perfect testimony of their musicianship. ‘Rumble Strip’ kicks off with broken beats turning into a 4x4 house beat filled with percussion, dreamy keyboard licks and sultry vocals to underline the floaty vibrations. ‘Afro Quarters’ is up next pushing further into their signature jazz infused broken beat house style, with funk bassline and key stabs that make it hard for the dancer not to move! Throw in some tastefully done flute and Rhodes solos for the mature sound they’re known for. Third track is ‘Easy’, and contrary to its name it’s not as chilled as you’ think! It’s incredibly groovy, and is reminiscent of the masterful work of Kaidi Tatham, with its heavy staccato bass and keys, and dreamy jazzy chords balance it all out. ‘On The Run’ closes out the EP while continuing the overall vibe of luscious warm chords and some unbelievably impressive broken house beats.

Lis Sarroca’s 'Magic Happenings’ comes correct with its metronomic tempo, Emanuele Barilli brings his throbbing chords on ‘Be Pe Em’ and Nephews stimulates the senses with the smooth warmth of ‘Waves’.

Aterral’s dearest friend Black Loops springs into action with the swinging two-step bounce of ‘Fanacanna’, whilst label boss Carlo.. As the title suggests… Is ‘Just Tripping Lightly.’

Although the name "Autumn Jazz" might sound melancholic, this 27th release on FRI is anything but. It's a refreshing and uplifting take by producer Andrey Slam. on slow-mo house groovers, ranging from 100 to 115 BPM, Andrey has done marvelous work with sample manipulation, cleverly using cuts and loops with heavy filter work. This results in authentic vibes reminiscent of early Kaytranada and the Soulection LA beat scene, characterized by heavily swung beats, subby basslines, and pumping grooves.

Fresh from the Outplay crew comes 24 Carrot; a series of edits, weirder bits and ruff house cuts that don’t necessarily  fit the brief for a regular Outplay EP. We spotlight ‘“That’s Pretty Vague”, with it’s swinging, organic drums and infectious rolling bassline it’s reminiscent of that 90’s golden period of New York tough garage, not unlike Mood II Swing in their prime.
