Good morning City 54

The current time is 5:30 AM, Asrton 3, 97 PDE. The forecast remains much the same, with sun shielding expected to last the following 6 cycles. Traffic on the innerrails is minimal but a rush is expected at shift change due to the necessary increase of 3rd shift workers to compensate for the increase of molecular nitrogen caused by the expedited construction of living blocks 27, 34 and 35. Please be advised, atmosphere protection is mandatory for those spending more than 15 minutes unsheltered and younglings are forbidden from unsheltered travel. Temperatures will be steady at 338K and the winds have yet to return but are predicted near the middle of in the following cycle stage.

In City news, Chancellor Eredon has promised to investigate the rash of terminations in Blocks 2 and 3 and continues negations with City 533 over land exchanges to provide more osmosis hydration in the outer blocks. However, City 53 representatives say progress is unlikely to be made until the capturing of Minister Dimhold’s 2nd youngling is properly investigated. City 54 has no comment on the matter and cites the previous investigation’s findings.

In Earth news, the building of a new outerrail link between City 1 and 32 will begin shortly, following the suppression of the Mechanics who continued sabotaging surveying efforts in the barrens between City 1 and 32. Construction chancellor ErShi says “progress will not be stopped by those who seek to thwart the improvement of billions of lives”. However, rumors that many more low dwellers than initially thought to be involved have been reported as disappeared leading some to openly speculate that ErShi’s militance has been involved. This terminal can not confirm these allegations.

In more Earth news, new stores of cesium have been found outside City 43. The explorative mission to uncover more of this essential element for the construction of more transport vessels has been long-awaited. Digging at a never before reached depths, the crews encountered numerous earthquakes one of which led to the destruction of northern City 43. Transport of these cesium stores will commence in the coming cycle.

In off-Earth news, Vessel 934IJ6 has regained contact with Earth after a break in communications. Vessel 934IJ6 was the 4th colonizer mission to the TRAPPIST-1 system and the first to return. The craft was returning from the Aquarius constellation where colonization efforts are ongoing. Chancellor Arroway has been limited in her reports on the communications disruption and the success of the missions but has affirmed that contact with the colonies remains positive. Volunteers for colonization can report to their nearest TR-1 office. Only classes 3 and above are eligible for colonization.

It’s been 10 years since we’ve released our first EP. It’s special to realise we have been on this collaborative project for over a decade now, and this seems like the perfect time for a gift. We’d like to celebrate 10 years of synergy between two childhood friends who decided to make music together.

We present you X - a 16 track-mixtape from years 2013-2018. It’s a collection of off-cuts, rarities and previously unreleased tracks. Most of these have been sitting on our harddrives for all this time. All of the productions capture a time before the Strange Days-era. We wanted to give these tracks a final resting place before the turn of the next decade. Or as they say; out with the old - in with new.

The X stands for the 10 years in music, as well as a cross. You can see this tape as honouring and closing off this formative period, and would invite you to come along with us on this trip through nostalgia. We were just 17/18 years old when we started doing this, and it’s insane that we’ve actually achieved something at such a young age.

We are ever developing and excited to see what the future brings. This is to many more in 2024. We can now start working on our debut album, something that we’ll take our sweet time for.

We are so grateful to be able to have shared these moments with you. This is to all we crossed paths with, the like-minded people, the collaborations, to all the hazy nights on the dance floor.

Amsterdam-based duo Know V.A. is one of the voices in the current renaissance of Dutch early hardcore. 

Driven by the search for the new, the two producers strip down the hard dance music they know until only the core principles remain. With the sheen of brute violence removed, a softer and more intricate existence appears. Their music is synthetic. For the duo, this unnatural sound aligns with people’s obsession to control and manufacture the world around them. 

The new record ‘Strange Days’ on Signal Life tells a story about a disintegrating world in which its inhabitants are paralyzed by the weight of impending doom. Whether it’s global warming, a potential nuclear war or a crumbling society. 

“With this record we tried to grasp some of this zeitgeist, as well as picture a possible future. While there’s hope; the end is in sight. How does contemporary music sound like amidst this realization? It definitely brings forward a certain recklessness. It’s strange days now.” 

Over the last years, Know V.A. have gained an international reputation. In between touring Asia and Europe, they’ve hosted a series of 'Strange Days' club nights in Amsterdam, which seeks to showcase contemporary hardcore and explore how the genre, sonically and aesthetically has remained active in the underground. Their aim is to create a cross-cultural event, by making surprising combinations of source and inspiration, older and newer names, Dutch and international talent next to each other on the line-up.
