For the track Shugo, Dahlhaus improved the harmonic techno he is known for by adding not only spherical, but sometimes also simply irritating sounds and noisy details. Right from the beginning, arpeggio lines are forming a maelstrom which is dragging the listener along through the track. Elements like the break beat bass drum and a straight snare are forming a complex and industrial world. We are right next to Dahlhaus, exploring this unknown and rather dark place, just to see it collapsing in the break. Now starts the new era of Shugo: the track and its world are abruptly rebuilt into something more bright and euphoric. From this point on, a straight bass drum will be our guide to the end of the track.

02 Max Dahlhaus - Shugo

With SecretMod the surreal undertone which was already sprouting in Shugo thickens. Spiritual sounding chimes, drums and synth-lines are orbiting each other. Growing out of this slurry sound, a strong bass line is giving the track its structure. This is definitely a piece of music which will bring some fresh air into the clubs.

03 Max Dahlhaus - Secret Mod

“This is KODX”. Three words, a simple but powerful statement. That is how we are introduced to two things at once: The newly founded and Berlin based label “KODX”, as well as its first release “KODX EP”. 

The EP's creator, who is also part of the founding team of KODX (the label) was formerly known as Max Farlane. Just this year he decided to change his name to Max Dahlhaus, got together with Photographer/Designer Jonas Köksal and the two took off on a journey to combine music and art to a symbiotic playground for artists from all areas alike.


01 Max Dahlhaus - KODX

A monolith is not only defined as single great stone often in the form of an obelisk or column, but also as an organized whole that acts as a single unified power or influential force. Monolithe Noir is the second artist releasing his work on KODX. On “Holy Divisions” Antoine is unifying his classic rock/folk background (he used to be the singer and drummer of the french band Arch Woodmann) with futuristic electronic elements and he is creating a unique and soothing sound. 

With the monolith in the centre of “Holy Divisions”, analogue harmonies are layered on top of each other changing the musical environment constantly. Where in nature erosion is transforming the surface of a stone, here we have Antoine, who is accurately sculpting the musical elements. Layer by layer different tone- clusters are exposed, re-shaped and discarded, just to be picked up and reconstructed to build something bigger a few moments later. 

Each song feels like it is describing a different period that is unfolding around the centre. Azp Asap' vibes feel rather bright and summerly, while Hort and Thru Glass are showing the aphotic and sometimes rough parts of the EP. The quartet of Monolithe Noir's tracks is completed by Night Ride, which is guiding you through the darkness and showing you the direction to the next sunrise.  

After releasing on labels like Beachcoma and SomethingHappeningSomewhere we are very happy to have Sigward doing the remix of Azp Asap' on KODX. He is once again showing off his talent to mix 80s vibes with melancholic undertones- never failing to get us dancing.

Deep, dark and soothing, but with an overall very positive vibe. That is how we experience Low Manuel's first release on KODX.The Italian based producer created three tracks, using analogue modules to give the EP its special touch.Etere is a powerful club-EP, which wants to be played in industrial environments, but also likes to occasionally escape to outside areas and festival grounds.

Joining us with a remix of “Etere” is our friend Fynn, who recently released his first EP on Poesie Musik/Get Physical. By adding the only vocal elements on the EP, Fynn created a perfect version of the title track for summer-parties on the beach or lakeside.We are also very happy to have Venter from Poland doing the second remix for the EP. For their interpretation of “Silver Tent” they picked out the most industrial bits of the track and connected those with their own style.

Starting off with a straightforward bass drum, Manycure’s “The Swallow” is slowly building a fairly dark and gloomy atmosphere- perfect for these current somber winter days!
While “Gate 00” surprises us with its rather playful and spherical vibes, we feel that “Zeit” makes time run way faster- the driving synth line and the mechanic drums are taking you on a trip through time and space. 
Last but not least: “Lume” illuminates not only dance floors, but may also help you to get through one or more snow/rain filled and lightless January days. It might not replace the lack of Vitamin D we are all feeling right now, but it is the second best thing you will get this winter!
As a resident at Lux Frágil, SwitchSt(d)ance is one of the most influential DJs from Lisbon and we are more than happy to have him aboard for this EP. With his Version of “Zeit” he is giving the EP its well-deserved smooth and clubby ending.

With his debut album RIMS OF TIME Max Dahlhaus is taking no prisoners. Every single one of the 13 tracks is splurging its individual features and one-of-a-kind undertones, still all of them show some kind of disposedness to drama, paired with flickers of irony.
Once you close your eyes and let yourself sink into the massive production, you will see that Dahlhaus had a master plan in his mind when producing the album. Emerging from the red haze of the cover-artwork which was created by Dahlhaus as well, you will see epic scenes start rumbling before your inner eye once the music starts. 

With some of the tracks simply listening will not be enough! You will feel the urge of stomping down on Berghain’s concrete floor while being part of a rolling mass of people. This longing will immediately fade away with the next track and you are going to want to sit on a rooftop in the earliest morning light, watching the shadows of the night crawl out of the city. Unpredictable breaks in the arrangement will allow your mind to jump to a range of different scenarios, banning any kind of tristesse in spite of the rather dark undertone of the album.

Carried by their multifaceted sound patterns, the 13 tracks of RIMS OF TIME are on peculiar journeys. The audience is free to decide if they want to watch those wanderings, or if they allow themselves to fall into that red haze and become part of the adventure.

„Weight of Grain“ is a massive and gloomy dystopia. Doors to undefined rooms will open to the ones who listen to it. Brute structures and dissonant, blurred synthetic soundscapes take each other by the hand to weave intriguing arrangements.
The acoustical productions of Tsaworks can be seen as an appraisal, imprinted with his precisely designed disorganization, which is looking for a reference to reality without being hold back by any rules.
His sculptural works on the other hand shall be seen as optical reflections. Glistening objects that seem to be fixed in space, but moving at the same time. They are somewhat alien, futuristic body parts- excrescences of our digital future.

KODX [ˈkoːdeks] is a platform for audio and visual art, founded in 2014 by Max Dahlhaus and Jonas Köksal.

Music and visual art have touched in the past for numerous times and bonded temporarily. Our ambition is to bring together what belongs together permanently: KODX wants to join artists from both areas into one collective in which everyone can learn from the other. The goal is to not only grow as an individual, but as a group. We do not want to be limited by genres during our learning process. By adjusting the focus exclusively to each new project, individuals and groups will be supported properly. We want to work on forming new ideas from known facts, while resting on artistic roots and still continuously refining ourselves. KODX serves as a catalyst, linking unconsumed ideas with the ken of experienced artists. Our goal will always be the departure into a new world.
