The Album's Concept: Everyone has a story, One story; The Monomyth. You are the main character. To understand the nature of story and what it means to us is to understand your own life path. Monomyth Separation is Part One of the Hero’s Journey. Will you accept the call to adventure? 

This album was born during my first big tour of Greece. I played 10 cities and travelled around the whole country playing my music. I received such great energy and feedback from fans that I decided I must make a project inspired by the trip, so I started digging! I collected records from around Greece; some traditional greek music plus other nice bits that I found. Whilst I was traveling, I was trying to come up with a concept that would tell the tale of a great journey. And of course, as I was in Greece ideas of myth and legend came to mind. So, when I returned home I researched a few things and stumbled across a theory by a philosopher and writer called Joseph Campbell. Basically, he wrote a book called “The hero with a thousand faces” in which he describes a theory that all great stories share; common elements - that they are all one story, a Monomyth. Is there a deeper meaning to why we tell stories? Are they a road map for our very existence, and a way to describe the cycle of life, death and rebirth? Due to this the album is very cinematic. I try to tell a story, but I want the listener to decide what that story is. The album will be best enjoyed as a whole so please find a quiet time to settle in and enjoy the ride.

Kill Emil is a DJ and producer based in Athens, Greece – by way of Brazil – who, since 2009, has created a healthy discography of potent beats and sublime atmospheres. With an early inspiration in hip hop and, importantly, Gangstarr’s Daily Operation, Kill Emil has been prolifically chopping up breaks on his MPC and is now up to his third artist album, the intriguingly titled Salvation. Its twelve tracks introduce dense soundscapes and clever samples over rough, funky rhythms, providing fuel to the DJs and head-nodders alike. Highlights on this Cold Busted release include the bouncy and somewhat spacey “When I See Your Smile”, the wistful yet playful “Can’t Find It”, and the surprisingly cosmic “Such A Long Time”. Kill Emil’s constructions contain many twists and turns within the layers … this imaginative producer keeps things interesting for the full run of his captivating album. Greek rhythm rustler Chop Juggler has dropped his debut album – titled More Is Less – to follow up the well-received Diggasmic EP on Cult Classic Records. Released on the prolific Cold Busted label, More Is Less collects eleven top notch beat-heavy jams from the young producer, now in his early twenties but involved in music making since the beginning of his teens. His artist name is apt, as Chop Juggler is adept at taking loops and samples and melding, twisting, and – yes – chopping them into intricate compositions. “Amethyst” provides convincing evidence; seemingly disparate sources are cut into sonic snatches, layered and bursting in and out of the mix to any beat-head’s delight. There’s also the more uptempo “Night Travel” which sounds just like that … if one is traveling by moonlight in a ’70s television crime drama. Slower, spacey moments like “Money Can’t Buy Time” and “Brave New World” showcase Chop Juggler’s depth, but with his ear for striking samples and tough hip hop beats still in full display. More Is Less follows through in its title’s statement by never overwhelming, but the album’s satisfying flow will indeed find the listener looking for more from this talented producer.

Greece's Melting Records close out 2017 with welcome return of the Tales of Another Direction compilation, now in its second volume. Tales of Another Direction Vol. 2 brings back some exciting Melting Records mainstays and introduces promising new talent, confirming the label's ear-to-the-ground taste-making prowess. The ten track collection – not including the 'bonus track' – is an aural journey in the best sense of the term, leading the listener down a jazzy pathway paved with trip hop, downtempo, and chilled electronic delights.

Tales of Another Direction Vol. 2 opens with the seductive "Flyentists" by French producer Screenatorium, featuring beautiful, smokey vocals and hazy, lazy rhythms. "Deep Water" – by Renegades of Jazz side-project Keno – continues this intoxicating vibe with its beachside sounds, organ and loungey horn loops, and beckoning female vocal snippets. Other strong highlights include the classic trip hop sound of Kognitif's "Flamant Rose", Skinshape and Jon Moody's '70s noir throwback "Oboe Diddly", the tough, choppy beats and trippy sitar of "Growth Strategies" by Niles Philips (Timewarp, Inc), and the hypnotic "Primeira Sessão" by MPC bandits Billa Qause and Mononome.
