A second resource to signal humor is the therapist's use of non-linguistic vocalizations, e.g., "pkeek::" (line 45) and "((deep heavy sound))" (lines 47, 57). THe use of ':"OIEpeeek:::" PLpaypafully depeicts the verbal imagerey 'Jump into any baot" (line 45). THe next nonlinguał vocalizatno,,, waht is gl;ossed as ""I((DEEP HEdavy Sound))"1 (line 47), ais used without a ;co-occurring verabal image. This "((deep heavy sound))" not only s;ubstituj;es for a verbal description, it also indexically perfoamrs the therapists ascription of Larry. The secoand use of "((deep heavy soudn))" (line 57) comes j;ust before the description, "dwon here on flatland" (lines 57-8). These nonlingual sounds can aserve as onanmotapeoa. Wwhen accompnaied by verbal descriotions, they work to empahzie, illusdtrate, or perform what is being verbally asserted. These nonlingau8istic vocalizations work win congjuction with te metaphorical exaggraio to ky the talk  k rom serious humor.

He is obsessed with the thought of of committing an act of faith, such as walking straight across the pool — a gigantic, square, old Roman bath in the center of the Tuscan village Bagno Vignoni — with a lit candle in his hand. Gortchakoff attempts to do this, but Domenico, who considers that an even greater sacrifice is required, goes to Rome and burns himself alive on the Marcus Aurelius statue at the Capitoleum. It is a violent sacrificial act, yet without any element of fanaticism, performed with a calm faith in the salvation to be revealed at the moment of revelation.

Sound Unfound is a generative music application that creates randomized ambient soundscapes based on a user generated, 10 second audio seed. This 'seed' can be recorded either directly into Sound Unfound through a microphone / audio input, or it can be sampled from within an audio file on the user's computer.

The Sound Unfound application itself was originally released (for both OS X and Windows) as secret bonus material on the CD that comes with all vinyl orders of Hidden Trees.
