Love Is What? What probably started as a not-so-serious question during a wild night out in Berlin soon found its resonance in the studio of the Mecklenburg-based producer duo Kollektiv Ost. As children of the early 80s and 90s, there was only one reasonable answer to this profoundly philosophical question for both of them. A 16th bass, the dusty emu synth and this legendary melody. Certain sounds tend to evoke certain emotions within us. From our countless conversations with our favorite melodic producers we know that emotions are the center of their work, may it be by expressing their emotions in their music or facilitating emotional journeys through their DJ-sets. CHROMA is an artistic experiment to further explore the link between music and emotions. We asked 10 of our favorite producers to create a track based on a certain emotion. Each EP of the five CHROMA EPs is dedicated to one emotion and contains two tracks by two different artists. Do you feel what we feel?

We all carry anger within us, often kept locked away for years or even decades. When that intense, accumulated anger rises to the surface, we call it Fury. Fury is the pinnacle of anger. It’s raw, intense and unbound - impossible to contain.

The Leipzig-based rising star Jil Tanner interpreted Fury in her very own way, processing her personal experiences with malicious people in her life. ‘Toxic People’ draws a beautiful contrast between hopeful melodies, a powerful kick & groove and her self-written & recorded vocal, conveying a clear message: 
“Toxic people only change their victims, never themselves.”

Rising tech house artist AndThen remixes Veednem on Adesso Music

London-based DJ and producer AndThen has certainly made a name for himself as one to watch, quickly rousing an extensive list of supporters across the globe, from Jamie Jones to Blondish and MK to BBC Radio 1’s Arielle Free. Following his 2023 ‘Work It’ EP on Adesso Music, which was remixed by heavyweights Huxley and Loz Seka, the UK talent returns to Junior Jack’s label with his take on Veednem’s ‘Maji’, drawing for powerful bass licks, organic drums, off-kilter synths and hypnotic vocals.

Birds of feather flock together: Both Sandro Schäufler and Marcel Schulz originally come from the land of the tousand lakes, the North-Eastern German state of Mecklenburg.
They established the "Collective East" around 2003 when it became a synonym for frisky underground raves, today it stands for the musical weekend relationship of the two. It is a "weekend relationship" because Marcel decided to move to the German capital Berlin, some time ago while Sandro is still staying in this native country Mecklenburg.
The meetings of the musical weekend relationship take place in clubs or Festivals most often, where it's musical eruptions frequently couse collective dance floor madness.
Releases on Katermukke, Bar25, Dantze or 3000Grad are also part of their work.
