J Dilla is widely regarded as one of the greatest producers in hip hop history. ‘The King of Beats’ Ma Dukes Yancey Collector’s Edition is manufactured in the image and likeness of the exact SP-1200 which produced Jay Dee’s signature sound. 'Double Divide' is the debut LP from Second Storey, released on Houndstooth on October 6th 2014.

Describing the music on Double Divide, Second Storey says: "The title of the album, 'Double Divide' refers to the different ideas I found myself exploring as the album progressed, relating to tension and release. The 'Double' being the double-intensity beat driven tracks and the 'Divide' being the antidote in the form of the ambient or more introspective moments." This duality is on display throughout the album, which hints at his wide-ranging influences, from the complex rhythmic structures and emotive melodic phrases of Aphex Twin and Autechre, the funk of Prince to Parliament, the crazed robotics of Drexciya and the raw techno sludge of Cristian Vogel and Neil Landstrumm, right through to dark drum and bass of artists like Ed Rush & Optical.

In answer to the questions I keep getting asked.
 ccai pt2 , part 1 is Drukqs, as that was the first thing I released that utilised computer controlled instruments, namely a modified Yamaha disklavier, 2nd gen and a couple of midi controlled solenoid based drum mechanisms I made just after I got the Disklavier.

I kept seeing them [disklaviers] in hotels, usually used to pipe muzak around the place and thought why doesn't anyone actually use one of these to compose music on and make beats etc! 
A couple of times when i saw them in hotel lobbies, i sneaked up to the disklavier and set it to play ultra low pitch and very slow, funny watching peoples reactions, it was down every corridor etc
NOBODY i spoke to back in around 1999 inc. people at yamaha knew how to connect one of these to a computer and I had to take my computer into Yamaha to try it out to see how fast these things could go, no info on the net then either.
The first year I burned out countless solenoids in the thing and learnt how to repair them myself, the more recent gen ones like I used at the barbican have temperature cut outs on them thankfully, i’ve still fried a few though!

We have the premiere of the Luke Vibert remix and the prolific techno producer has gone to town on 'One Sound'. Expect an erratic, demonic and frankly bonkers edit that incorporates squelchy basslines, sharp vocal cuts and beautifully staggered drums. Check it.
