Gorillaz are an English virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band primarily consists of four animated members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs. Their fictional universe is presented in music videos, interviews and short cartoons. In reality, Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, and Gorillaz' music often features collaborations with a wide range of featured artists. Remi Kabaka Jr. became the producer for the band in 2016 after several years of providing the voice of Russel Hobbs and was listed as an official member alongside Albarn and Hewlett in the 2019 documentary Gorillaz: Reject False Icons.

With Gorillaz, Albarn departed from the distinct Britpop of his band Blur, exploring a variety of musical styles including hip hop, electronic music, and world music through an "eccentrically postmodern" approach. The band's 2001 debut album Gorillaz, which featured dub and Latin influences, went triple platinum in the UK and double platinum in Europe, with sales driven by the success of the album's lead single "Clint Eastwood". Their second studio album, Demon Days (2005), went six times platinum in the UK and double platinum in the US and spawned the successful lead single "Feel Good Inc.".

The band's third album, Plastic Beach (2010), featured environmentalist themes, an electropop approach and an expanded roster of featured artists. Their fourth album, The Fall (2010), was recorded on the road during the Escape to Plastic Beach Tour and released on 25 December 2010. The band's fifth album, Humanz, was released after a seven-year hiatus on 28 April 2017. Their sixth album, The Now Now (2018), featured stripped-down production and a greater musical focus on Albarn. Gorillaz' latest project is Song Machine, a music-based web series with episodes that consist of standalone singles and accompanying music videos featuring different guests each episode, resulting in their seventh album, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez (2020).

Gorillaz has presented itself live in a variety of different ways throughout the band's history, such as hiding the live band from the audience's view in the early years of the project, projecting animated band members on stage via computer graphics and traditional live touring featuring a fully visible live band.
The band have sold over 24 million records worldwide and are cited by Guinness World Records as the world's "Most Successful Virtual Band". They have won a Grammy Award, two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award and three MTV Europe Music Awards. They have also been nominated for 11 Brit Awards and won Best British Group at the 2018 Brit Awards.

If there’s one thing that Dollkraut can’t stand, it’s predictability. For the past decade, frontman Pascal Pinkert has passionately pursued musical unpredictability. From muscular dub-flecked synthesizer workouts, to electro-fired post-punk, body wave and freaky ethnic explorations, Pinkert’s music surprises and thrills at every turn. This unpredictability and fearlessly open-minded approach is naturally also one of the standout features of the Dollkraut Band and Pinkert’s solo DJ performances.

Performed by Pinkert alongside a bass-player and a drummer, using a range of non-conventional analogue instruments and unusual, vintage synthesizers, Dollkraut's band shows combine a wall of sound and visuals with the same experimental, lo-fi approach that marks out Pinkert’s recorded output. Think members of Portishead, and Front242 jamming with Neu! and Linear Movement, and you’re close to the Dollkraut live sound.
As for Pinkert’s future plans, you’ll just have to wait and see. If his career so far has taught us anything, he’ll most likely continue confounding expectations.

Dollkraut also received a lot of attention for his stunning reworks of Brandt Brauer Frick and Paul Frick feat. Emika. He managed to create "fake originals": many people were convinced that his versions were the originals and the originals were the remixes.

William Emmanuel Bevan, known by his recording alias Burial, is a British electronic musician from South London. Initially remaining anonymous, Burial became the first artist signed to Kode9's electronic label Hyperdub in 2005. He won acclaim the following year for his self-titled debut album, which showcased a dark, emotive take on UK rave music styles such as 2-step garage and jungle; it was named the album of the year by The Wire. Burial's second album, Untrue, was released to further critical acclaim in 2007.

In 2008, Bevan's identity was revealed by The Independent and confirmed by Hyperdub. In the following years, he went on to collaborate with Four Tet, Massive Attack, Thom Yorke and Zomby in addition to releasing a series of long-form EPs such as Kindred (2012), Truant / Rough Sleeper (2012), and Rival Dealer (2013); most of these releases were later compiled on the 2019 compilation Tunes 2011–2019. He has remained reclusive, giving few interviews and avoiding public appearances. AllMusic described him as "one of the most acclaimed, influential, and enigmatic electronic musicians of the early 21st century."

A trippy Cover Version of Kraftwerk's Computer Love (1978)

Teruo Nakano was born on August 12, 1963. He joined one of P-Model's early incarnations and was also part of the touring band from 1986 'til 1988. He played on P-Model's "One Pattern" album (and composed for that album a track called "Call Up Here" which he re-recorded for his "User Unknown" album).
He can also be seen playing with the band on P-Model's 1988 video called "三界の人体地図". He, later on, co-founded a band called Long Vacation with Kera and Minosuke (1991-1995). Since 1996, he currently records and produces solo albums and does a few collaborative concerts with other musicians and singers.

This song is really exceptional for the 80s. Like many other listeners, I heard the song on the radio in a German DJ show at the weekend. It was an American Electric Boogie DJ who mixed Anne Clark into his set. Since then, Sleeper in Metropolis has stuck in my mind. The sounds sound so insanely frozen that it just melts hearts.
As DJs I recommend that you incorporate the track into an 80s like New Wave DFA- indie set. It really works wonders.

Anne Charlotte Clark (born 14 May 1960, Croydon, Surrey, England) is an english poet.
Her first album, The sitting Room, was released in 1982, and she has released over a dozen albums since then.

Her poetry work with experimental musicians occupies a region bounded roughly by electronic, dance (techno applies on occasion) and possibly avant-garde genres, with varying hard as well as romantic and orchestral styles.

Anne Clark is mainly a spoken word artist. Many of her lyrics deal critically with the imperfections of humanity, everyday life, and politics. Especially in her early works she has created a gloomy, melancholy kind of atmosphere bordering on weltschmerz. She has been considered one of the pioneers in the spoken-word music genre, as well as being highly idolised over the board of techno-pop and new wave music, especially across Europe.

This track is definitely an igniting fire on the dance floor. For me one of the most important dance tracks of the 80s. Unfortunately not as popular as other good dance tracks from that time.
When I play this, people often come up to me and ask what a Giorgio Moroder track this is. When there was no Shazam, this was a legitimate question. The Moroder beat is unique, similar to Donna Summer back then. Please play this as often as you can. Good stuff comes around way too rarely, unfortunately.

EBERHARD SCHOENER:
(born May 13, 1938, Stuttgart) is a German musician, composer, conductor, and arranger. His activities combine many styles and formats. Originally a classical violinist and conductor of chamber music and opera, he was one of the early adopters and popularizers of the Moog synthesizer in Europe. In the 1970s he traveled to Indonesia and incorporated musical elements from Asia into his own work.
He has collaborated with rock musicians such as Jon Lord and The Police and also with Electronic Music German Pioneer band Tangerine Dream on an orchestral arrangement for the "Mojave Plan" track for a live performance on a German TV show. He has composed film scores, videos, music for television, and an opera to be broadcast via the Internet.
He has won numerous awards, including the 1975 Schwabing Art Prize for music, the 1992 Bambi Award for creativity and a lifetime achievement award at the Soundtrack Cologne Festival of Music and Sound in Film and the Media in November, 2014.

Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner CBE (born 2 October 1951), known as Sting, is an English musician and actor. He was the principal songwriter, lead singer, and bassist for new wave rock band the Police from 1977 to 1984. He launched a solo career in 1985, and has included elements of rock, jazz, reggae, classical, new-age, and worldbeat in his music.

As a solo musician and a member of the Police, Sting has received 17 Grammy Awards: he won Song of the Year for "Every Breath You Take", three Brit Awards, including Best British Male Artist in 1994 and Outstanding Contribution in 2002, a Golden Globe, an Emmy and four nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Nina Hagen was born in 1955 in the East Berlin district of Friedrichshain, the daughter of actress Eva-Maria Hagen and screenwriter Hans Oliva-Hagen. She originally wanted to become an actress in the GDR, but her application was rejected by the drama school without justification. The MfS officer in charge had written the note "Prevent!" on the application for admission, since the dissident Wolf Biermann was her mother's partner and Nina Hagen was thus also considered politically unreliable. After that she sang with some bands in Poland and through that she came to the orchestra Alfons Wonneberg.

As a teenager she sang in the Reinhard Lakomy Choir[6]. In 1974, Hagen finished a one-year vocal training at the Central Studio for Entertainment Arts as a state-certified pop singer; her vocal range is reported by the press to be four octaves. Hagen was discovered at a concert by the group Automobil and was immediately hired. Her first release was the song Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen, issued by the East German record label Amiga, written by two of the band members. In 1975, she left Automobil and joined Fritzens Dampferband. A public show of solidarity for the ostracized Wolf Biermann, who was expatriated from the GDR in 1976, sidelined Hagen, so she took the opportunity to emigrate to the West on December 28 of the same year. She first went to Great Britain and was active in the punk scene there.

Towa Tei (jap. テイ・トウワ, Tei Towa for Sinokorean 鄭東和, Chung Dong-hwa; born September 7, 1964 in Tokyo Prefecture) is a Japanese DJ.
Towa Tei first became known to a wider public in 1989 with the production of the album Done by the Forces of Nature by the New York hip-hop trio Jungle Brothers.

The following year, he became an international star as a member of the New York underground trio Deee-Lite. The debut single Groove Is in the Heart conquered the charts worldwide and is now considered a classic. After two albums, Towa Tei left the band and began working on solo projects.

His debut album Future Listening! was released in 1995 and is a mixture of electronic dance music with bossa nova and jazz elements. It ranked 59th on Rolling Stone Japan's "100 Greatest Japanese Rock Albums of All Time."
Three more albums followed in 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Coldcut are an English electronic music duo composed of Matt Black and Jonathan More. Credited as pioneers for pop sampling in the 1980s,
Coldcut are also considered the first stars of UK electronic dance music due to their innovative style, which featured cut-up samples of hip-hop, soul, funk, spoken word and various other types of music, as well as video and multimedia. According to Spin, "in '87 Coldcut pioneered the British fad for 'DJ records'".

Coldcut's records first introduced the public to pop artists Yazz and Lisa Stansfield, through which these artists achieved pop chart success. S'Express were an English dance music act from the late 1980s, who had one of the earliest commercial successes in the acid house genre.

"Theme from S'Express", which contained elements from Rose Royce's "Is It Love You're After", was one of the earliest recordings to capitalize on a resurgence of sampling culture. The song went to number one in the United Kingdom for two weeks in April 1988. It also made the Hot Dance Club Play chart in the United States, (also scraping into the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 91).

The main player in the act was disc jockey and producer Mark Moore. In 1989, the group released its debut album, Original Soundtrack, which featured a line-up of Moore, Pascal Gabriel, Jocasta, Mark D, Linda Love, and Michellé. The album consisted of slightly longer versions of S-Express's "Theme", its follow-up hits "Superfly Guy" (UK #5) and a cover version of Sly and the Family Stone's "Hey Music Lover" (UK #6; its b-side was remixed by minimalist composer Philip Glass), along with an album's worth of new compositions.

By the release of the second album Intercourse, the act was reduced to a duo of Moore with new vocalist and DJ Sonique. Although not as successful as its debut, Intercourse spawned several mid-charting UK singles and club hits, including "Nothing to Lose", co-written with Martin Gordon, as were several other tunes on the record. Sonique, already a successful DJ, eventually embarked on a solo career and produced one of the biggest club hits of the late 1990s ("It Feels So Good"). Moore went on to release many singles, remixes and albums on his own and also formed the band Needledust

Stella is a german Indieband founded in 1995 from Hamburg. Stella's style is a mix of pop and rock with electronic style elements. It is considered one of the successors of the "Hamburger Schule" 
In 1997, Stella became known to the general public with the song "Ok, Tomorrow I'll Be Perfect". On February 2, 1998 followed the band's first album, Extralife, in which Schorsch Kamerun (leadsinger of the german Punkband "Die Goldenen Zitronen" and club operator of Hamburgs popular "golden Pudel Club") participated as a guest musician. On the second album, Finger on the Trigger for the Years to Come, it was Dirk von Lowtzow from the band Tocotronic. 
The cover motif of Better Days Sounds Great, the third album, is an imitation of the album cover photo of the most famous Fleetwood Mac album Rumors, from which the cover version Dreams originates. On her fourth album, Fukui, is accompanied by almost entirely Japanese texts of electronic music, which were recorded by hand ("No midi, no sequencing, no computer" is featured in the booklet). All band members are especially involved in the Hamburg music scene as musicians and producers with various other bands.

He enrolled in the Lyzeum No. 2, a college for gifted young musicians, as a pianist, in 1966. After completing his studies Cretu moved to the Academy Of Music in Frankfurt, where Professor Philipp Mohler began to take an interest in him. Having passed his final exams in 1978, Cretu immediately found work as a studio musician and arranger. Founder of Data Alpha Studio.

It's Immaterial are an English indie pop band from Liverpool, England, formed in 1980. They are best known for their 1986 single "Driving Away From Home (Jim's Tune)", which reached number 18 on the UK Singles Chart.

It's Immaterial were formed by three former members of Yachts - Mancunian John Campbell vocals, Martin Dempsey guitar, and Henry Priestman keyboards - in addition to Paul Barlow, drums. By 1984, the band had been reduced to a duo - Campbell and Jarvis Whitehead, guitar and keyboards, who joined in 1982.

On 11 November 1981, around the time of the release of the band’s third single, It's Immaterial recorded the first of four sessions for John Peel at BBC Radio 1. The track listing was "A Gigantic Raft (In the Philippines)", "Imitate the Worm", "White Man's Hut", and "Rake"."A Gigantic Raft" was featured on the soundtrack of Jonathan Demme's 2004 The Manchurian Candidate.

In April 1985 the band recorded their fourth and final John Peel session, with the tracks: "Rope", "Hang On Sleepy Town", "Space" and "Festival Time". In the same month, the band's Fish Waltz EP reached number 30 on the UK Indie Chart.

Less than a year later the band had a hit single with "Driving Away From Home (Jim's Tune)". ('John Campbell puts his foot down on the pedal – ever so gently – to cruise out along the M62. A Mini-Midwestern road movie transported to Liverpool'.) This song was their biggest hit and has since featured widely on television advertisements and on 1980s based compilation albums.[citation needed]

Another minor hit followed, "Ed's Funky Diner (Friday Night, Saturday Morning)", with accompanying video, before the release of the band's debut album, Life's Hard and Then You Die, in September 1986.

In 1990 they released their second album Song. As before, the music was of a subdued, understated nature, with wry wit in the manner of an indie Pet Shop Boys. The album was a commercial flop, despite receiving positive reviews in the music press. The album was produced by Calum Malcolm, best known for his work with Glasgow band The Blue Nile.

In the same year as Song, former It's Immaterial keyboard player Henry Priestman, had a UK number one album The Christians with the band of the same name.

In 1993 the band started to work on a new album which remained uncompleted for many years. Since 2010 some unreleased songs from the album have appeared on different internet music channels: "Just North of Here", "New Moon", "Is It Alright (Between Us)", "House for Sale" and "How Can I Tell You".

A deluxe edition of their album Life's Hard and Then You Die was released on 1 July 2016. The double CD issue contains the original album remastered plus bonus tracks of single versions, B-sides, remixes and one of the group's John Peel sessions.

On 23 September 2016, the group launched the campaign to produce and release their "lost and found" album House for Sale via Pledge Music. The pledge target was reached, although an initial tentative release date of spring 2017 was later postponed to early 2018. The album was finally released on 18 September 2020, through Burning Shed Distribution
