so lush.... beautifully composed... soul food. Liking this much more than the bass music on the flip. Way way way more. I've listened to this tune over a dozen times today and it doesn't get old. Music is a universal language that speaks to the soul of all individuals. Well played sir. More of this sort of thing.

Here's a 5+ hour set from a beautiful night in Vancouver with the Soul Hop crew.  The soundsystem at Vantek was singing, the crowd were getting down and it was one of those nights where 5 hours felt like 1 hour. Phonica Mix Series 130 welcomes an artist who has defined and defied the rules of drum & bass like no other. dBridge, real name Darren White has been in the game for well over 30 years. Growing up listening to artists like DJ Randall & Grooverider on Rush FM when he was starting out shaped his ear for the sound that he would learn to grow with, love and mutate. With over 100 records released on labels like R&S, Convex, Metalheadz, Nonplus and more that span well into the 90's dBridge has become a pioneer well in his own right. Not only that but his label Exit Records which not too long ago celebrated its 100th release has been a output determined to push the boundaries of experimental bass, D&B and more. 
Having usually referred to himself as being producer first, it is not to be mistaken that White is a seasoned pro behind the decks. Having stepped into Worlds of his own playing with some of Drum & Bass' biggest names like Doc Scott & Goldie, the artist has also stepped into lengthy b2b's with Bass artist Youngsta and Techno legend Donato Dozzy (which he will do once more this Summer at Dekmantel). 
For this mix dBridge has dedicated it to people around him, a friends and family mix of sorts. With heavy bassy tones from the get go and experimental techno and electro flowing throughout - it showcases the sure diversity of one of the best to do it! We had a brief chat with dBridge about the mix and what he has coming up.

Keiren Lomax has had his fingers in many different musical pies for years now.  The Bristol born DJ and producer was first turned onto the dance thanks to the sounds of Easy Groove at Fantazia and immediately began collecting vinyl. As scenes changed and Keiren matured, Bristol’s famous jungle scene swept him up and took him under its wing and, before long, he was a resident at the city’s Apex party and soon went on to play further afield around the UK. 

Following a Sound Engineering and Recording Course, Keiren focussed on making his own sounds and was soon releasing on labels like Moving Shadow, Tech Itch and his own imprint Ice Minus Recordings. For the last seven or so years, though, he has been best known as Komonazmuk, a producer who operated in dubstep and post dubstep realms on leading labels like HENCH, Tempa and ApplePips as well as remixing the likes of Bonobo, Paul Woolford and Emika amongst others. 

“I think my earlier productions were pretty dark and reflected where I was at in my life. I was an angry kid so I did tend to listen to darker more aggressive stuff,” says the man who was asked to perform on Mary Ann Hobbs’ influential Bristol Rise Up show on Radio 1.  Since then he has gone on to perform across Europe and the States, as well as headlining Sziget Festival in front of thousands. 

Like all good artists, Keiren has continued to evolve, mature and explore ever more diverse sonic sources. As such, he has recently branched out as Komon, shifting slowly away from dubstep and more toward the constant punch of technoid kick drums, subtly delayed melodies and forceful low ends.  

It’s an approach that has pricked up the ears of all the right people, with Komon EPs coming on ApplePips alongside label boss Appleblim, as well as on HypeLTD with Bristol peer Arkist. As well as that there are several new remixes in the pipeline and a solo 12” on the esteemed Aus imprint in summer 2013.
