Returning to the full-length format after a couple of years well spent in the 12" singles circuit, Brazilian groove architect GUI BORATTO follows up his 2011 offering "III" (KOMPAKT 242 CD 90) with new masterpiece ABAPORU - an exotic and colorful journey into sound, spread over 13 richly orchestrated club tracks that display the same penchant for ridiculously catchy melodies and infectious rhythms that already informed his revered 2007 album debut CHROMOPHOBIA (KOMPAKT 152 CD 56).

In what may be his best work to date, GUI BORATTO strings together various contemporary strands of pop-infused techno and house and translates them into his very own stream of groove consciousness - also an act of cultural appropriation, as both ABAPORU's cover artwork and title suggest: putting an inspired twist on Brazil's most famous modernist painting "Abaporu" from early 20th century artist Tarsilo Do Amaral, they draw from the rich history of Brazilian modern art, where European and indigenous influences would collide in the most exciting manner.

From the vibrant shores of Portugal to the pulsating heart of Berlin, Jepe has carved out a unique and captivating presence in the global electronic music scene.

Jepe's musical journey began in Aveiro, a coastal town near Porto, where he was drawn to the rhythmic energy of the ocean. At just 16 he had his own radio show, and by 19 he was already commanding the decks at one of the biggest clubs in his hometown. 

As one half of duo Johnwaynes, he made waves with releases on   Mulemusiq, Compost Records, Get Physical, and Cecille. And in 2013, Jepe embarked on a solo path, spanning top labels such as Diynamic, Moodmusic ++. 

As founder of rising label Eastern Standard, Jepe is also a visionary curator. And as a skilled mix engineer at Berlin’s renowned Blackhead Studios, he cultivates his perfectionism in both analog and digital rhythmical landscapes.

When the demo of ‘Scorpio Rising’ landed in our office, we knew immediately: this has to be released in the summer! A hook is a hook is a hook. And what Lannakise sang into the mic for LOPEZHOUSE is definitely a big hook with barbs that sticks in your head. A pristine pop house masterpiece from the La Mancha native.
