Starting out in 2001 to tie up some loose ends from our regulars, SPEICHER has since become a guarantee for vanguard dance sounds from all over the planet, allowing KOMPAKT to invite and support electronic artists that comfortably inhabit both the delicate and the more deliberate ends of the electronic music spectrum. For SPEICHER 82, brothers in crime VOIGT & VOIGT deliver two mind-altering doses of psychotropic techno, doing what they do best and squeezing utmost impact out of most minimal arrangements.
Tapping into the more hallucogenic properties of techno. Wolfgang and Reinhard Voigt get back to knead the bodies and minds of the dancing crowd – while being quite upfront about their aesthetic goals. The bold and twitchy A-side SUPERPITCH does exactly that: riding the pitch, and riding it hard. Its incessantly morphing bell sounds are screwing with your sensory inputs, making you an easy prey for the cut's simple and effective beat 'n' bass patterns. However, the secret showstopper of this release might actually be the flipside's aptly named cut SUPERTRIP – a dramatic, string-laden techno journey that starts with a spartan, but heartily grinding bassline and soon evolves into a fully-fledged synth stomper. Turn on, tune in, space out!

Als Compilation-Reihe im Jahre 2001 gegründet um ein paar lose Fäden unserer Stammkünstler zu verknüpfen, hat sich SPEICHER inzwischen zu einem Garanten für fortgeschrittene Tanzklänge aus aller Welt weiterentwickelt, der es KOMPAKT erlaubt Musiker aus allen Bereichen des elektronischen Spektrums einzuladen und zu fördern. Für SPEICHER 81 liefert das Brüdergespann VOIGT & VOIGT zwei bewusstseinsverändernde Dosen psychotropen Technos ab, der seinen größtmöglichen Effekt aus minimalsten Arrangements zieht.

Ein genaueres Studium von Beipackzettel und Nebenwirkungen entlarvt die halluzinogenen Eigenschaften des Voigt'schen Klangs, eine regelrechte Knetmaschine für Körper und Geist der tanzenden Meute. Ziemlich eindeutig auch das ästhetische Ziel – die schön patzige A-Seite SUPERPITCH etwa tut genau das, was sie sagt: den Pitch reiten, und zwar hart. Die unermüdlich morphenden Glocken bringen sämtliche Sinneseindrücke durcheinander und machen den Hörer zur einfachen Beute für die simplen und höchst effektiven Beat- und Bassmuster des Tracks. Der geheime Hit jedoch verbirgt sich auf der Rückseite – das sinnig benannte SUPERTRIP, eine dramatische, streicherlastige Technoreise, die mit einer spartanischen, aber herzhaft reibenden Bassline beginnt und sich schnell zum vollausgestatteten Synthie-Stampfer entwickelt. When the demo of ‘Scorpio Rising’ landed in our office, we knew immediately: this has to be released in the summer! A hook is a hook is a hook. And what Lannakise sang into the mic for LOPEZHOUSE is definitely a big hook with barbs that sticks in your head. A pristine pop house masterpiece from the La Mancha native. The remix by Scottish techno legend Funk D’Void brings a deeper perspective to the mix which recalls Kompakt’s golden era sound of the 00’s and unfolds its full beauty in the early hours of the morning.

KÖLSCH returns to SPEICHER / KOMPAKT EXTRA following the tremendous success of last year’s “Grey” (KOMPAKT EXTRA 93). A single that surprised everyone by catapulting the Danish artist into daytime UK radio. Alongside launching his own BBC1 residency, he continued to evolve as a DJ which has led to residencies launching in Cologne and Ibiza. 

KÖLSCH also launched his own record label IPSO which debuted a collaboration with MICHAEL MAYER with more to come... 

For his latest SPEICHER instalment, Rune revisits the bold, catchy minimalism of his earlier days: think of his INK AND NEEDLE alias or KÖLSCH’s very first SPEICHER / KOMPAKT EXTRA release (KOMPAKT EXTRA 68) and you’re not too far off the mark. PUSH is a raucous, sawtooth-y banger that quickly evolves into a high-flying space ride, thanks to its bursts of melody and a deep string break. On the flipside, GOODBYE creates a delightfully melancholic mood enhanced (and transcended) with organ-like synth textures, retro-futuristic bleeps and fragmented alien voices. 

Our SPEICHER series rapidly heads towards 100. Where it goes, only we know - so savour the flavour while it lasts.
